Is it? News to meOriginally posted by princesirohi View Postofcourse, no one removes CDI connection before wash, but water does enter the connectors without removing them, when washed with water jet.
Unless the guy who washes the vehicle is dumb ass & jets directly towards seats & fuel tank for sometime, this CANNOT happen.

It happens bro.....belive me .....u don't have any control over -- how dumb the guy can be who washes your bike.Originally posted by aargee View PostIs it? News to me

i have seen this happens with my bike and lot of other bikes at authorized service centers as well as local mechanic wash shops.

^^^ Ok, I don't know about that because its been almost 5-6 yrs ever since I gave it those morons for a water wash. For over these many years, I carry out water wash all by myself & I'm even thinking seriously to get a Bosch power wash system.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Yeah dude met with a mech today morning & he suggested to change the spark plug and try. After following his suggestion I shifted back to my old spark plug & tried just a few mins earlier. To my surprise it worked and the jerking issue got solved. So the culprit was the new iridium spark plug which i used in the service. I dint expected the iridium to be performing like this. I never suspected such a basic thing like the spark plug can also be a reason of it. Now i will ride another few kms to make sure if the problem was just the spark plug.Originally posted by princesirohi View Posthey Madhav any updates..........wht hpnd.........problem solved or not.......u checked anything...???
Now am remembering an old saying in telugu :- "Kondanu thavvi elikanu pathadantha" meaning "Found a rat after digging a mountain"
Thanks to all you guys for your time & for helping me with this problem. But now am thinking of what to do of this spark plug. Its just a few days back when i brought it. Any ideas on it?? Throwing it would be a loss of 500 bucks for me.
Lessons learned:-
1. Never forget to check each and every basic part of the bike in case of any problem.
2. Never invest heavily on things like spark plug which donot have any warranties.NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

@madhav: dude. I'm just trying to understand...how could the spark plug be a cause of the jerks from the engine? I mean, once the combustion starts it's job is over, right? Really fail to see the point...even in my P220 FI, I'm noticing the similar problem...in lower rev, the engine is giving soft jerks, as if it's holding back, out of breath [
]/fuel sort of feeling...while accelerating, again I'm having the same feeling (though not every time, but often)...I didn't change any spark plug, recently...and the last time I checked my spark plugs, was like 2 weeks back...
@Folks - any specific idea on this? I'm thinking to get the CO-level test done for engine...what's say? Put in your thoughts.

Perhaps it might be due to the spark plug's inability to provide the right spark to ignite the combustion & hence in the lower revs the it behaves like out of breath. Since the bike is in gear the moving force from the wheel doesnt allow the engine to stop. But in higher revs the current produced might be high which gives a spark powerful enough to keep the combustion process going on.Originally posted by JonnyRider View Post@madhav: dude. Whatever might be the reason but am damn sure that the problem in ma bike is due to the spark plug ONLYNOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

What if the sparks aren't...Originally posted by JonnyRider View PostI mean, once the combustion starts it's job is over, right?
1. Sufficient to burn the AF mixture?
2. Evenly out at regular intervals?
3. Last but not the least, how about a manufacturing defect on the plug?
CO-level, you mean emission check? If that's the case, what's holding youOriginally posted by JonnyRider View Post@Folks - any specific idea on this? I'm thinking to get the CO-level test done for engine...what's say? Put in your thoughts.

@Aargee - Sorry to put the CO-level check in that way...pardon my wordings. As I was told before by the bajaj service mechs, that for FI engine to tune the A/F mixture they do the CO check. It's nothing to do with the emission-norms to follow...if that's not the right info, plz correct me...

Sorry Jonny, I'm little weak with open ended FI systemOriginally posted by JonnyRider View Post@Aargee - Sorry to put the CO-level check in that way...pardon my wordings. , may be you can check with Praful who has P220 FI

It is a well known problem with 3 yamaha bikes I had , that the Induction coil / cable / spark plug goes kaput if they get wet often during rains or washing . The tank designs also allows water to drip down to the Ignition coil . The Induction coil rusts and corrodes , so does it's contacts , giving progressively weaker ignition current . This aggravates when the bike gets wet or roads slushy . Problem is that the coil never dies completely , only gets weaker .. so it's difficult to locate . If your iridium plug is not shorted-out ( defective even when you got it ?? unlikely ! ) then it is not getting enough current from the coil . I am not sure , but maybe the Iridium needs higher current ? Take out the tank and check the coil , have it tested by a auto electrician / coil-maker . Yamaha SC knows zilch about coil-testing
. I had the same symptoms and they tried to be helpful ( they checked out everything else ) , but couldn't locate it .. my local mechanic did . I replaced the coil and waterproofed it best I could with electrical tape & grease, and always kept a cloth between the tank and frame gap ( all RX owners knows this trick ) so that water could not drip down below tank . That solved it . I am sure aargee'jee also knows abouth this old yamaha coil thing as he said earlier ".... If that's the case, then consider your problem is solved " ;-)

Is itOriginally posted by Pinaki View Postthe Induction coil / cable / spark plug goes kaput if they get wet often during rains or washing. The tank designs also allows water to drip down to the Ignition coil.
Then its news to me!!! I've been riding in rains for over 3 months & haven't faced any issue w.r.t coil or spark plug so far. I mean, REAL RAINS where even cars find it difficult to ride comfortably.
Yes, true. Unless the spark plug cap is pulled out & the spark is checked with the plug, its difficult to find.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostProblem is that the coil never dies completely , only gets weaker .. so it's difficult to locate.
+1; the simply rubber cap that comes along with the plug cap is more than sufficient to be water proof. Most of the moronic mechs rip them away as it becomes difficult to remove the plugOriginally posted by Pinaki View PostI replaced the coil and waterproofed it best

I think Madhav resolved the issue by changing the spark plug.
Can you do a favour? Can you buy an Activa's or Unicorn's plug cap & replace it with your Glad's plug cap & give a shot? IMO, it should work. If you think Activa's plug cap is expensive, get an Unicorn's & you might've to cut out the plastic to fit in appropriately. That way you can have your Iridium plugs working probably.Originally posted by madhav krishna View PostBut now am thinking of what to do of this spark plug. Well on the contrary i read that the iridium needs less current due to less resistance in it & hence it delivers a much more powerful spark than the conventional spark plugs at the same amount of current.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostIf your iridium plug is not shorted-out ( defective even when you got it ?? unlikely ! ) then it is not getting enough current from the coil . Well i dont think its a problem with the spark plug cap. Because even nightwing has used the iridium spark plug & he said that he never faced any sort of problem. Moreover the problem started after replacing the spark plug only & disappeared as soon as i changed the spark plug.Originally posted by aargee View PostCan you do a favour?
