hey guys , just thought i would share my experiance with K&N here , last month bought a RC1060 K&N and fitted it directly to my carb on my unicorn , well at first i was delighted with the sound my my bike made i could feel that my bike has become faster (just an asumption) , after 2 days i got my bike cleaned with those water spray pump cleaner , and to my horrid my bike wouldnt start , tried for nearly an hour and at last it came to life after i took out the K&N and let it dry for sometime under the sun . thus my feeling towards K&N started going sour ,

after a few days i noticed my bike is making a lot of noise but its not going as fast , after 50 it was feeling sick & my gears too had become a lil rough, so i went to castrol bike zone , the mechanic there told me " sir , trust me those Honda guys knows whats the best for ur bike and thus the have provided the OE filter " . bus thats all i could hear and immediately went back to my stock filter .

and i forgot to tell ya , i dint do any getting and all .

Dude, first of all u've fixed ur K&N wrong by discarding the airfilter box and fitting it directly in the carb's Mouth, which is totally exposed to dust, mud, slush and water!! Secondly, as u assumed, k&N is not waterproof! It is paper type and will definitely absorb water when it comes on contact with!! Thirdly, did u Up-Jet ur carb???? If no, then for sure, ur bike will be slower than the stock Uni!!! Cos of ur LEAN MIX!!!

It's because u didn't wish to experiment for good results!!

But as everyone knows, re-jetting is purely based on trial and error. I have fitted the ZMA's 125 jets instead of my P180's 117.5 jets and i would say that i still haven't arrived at that right mixture.
I dunnno when/IF I will . Thats mainly because I dont have time.
I am thinking of reverting back to stock only because I dont get the time to experiment.

K&N is not paper filter, it is cotton based wet type filter.

Stock filters are paper filter except some of with sponge type non induction.

For cleaning K&N water is the secondary fluid after Main cleaning solution.

Name Of Foam based filters for performance >>> ITG, PiperCross, TwinAir etc.etc.etc..
Both the filter types are wet type.

fitting K&N or any high performance filter is not the only one thing which can pep up ur motor. For performance there are some things that u need to be changed at first place. just check the list..HP= High Performance
HP. Filter + HP. Exhaust Canister + HP. Spark Plug + HP. Spark Plug Cable + HP. Ignition Coil (single spade/double spade/single wire/double wire...wotever) + Then checking the bike on road + Re-Jetting.
When you put high perfromance filter that means allowing extra air, but using stock exhaust canister means blocking the breathing. the exhaust should be increased in that ratio only. So that means both the intake and exhasut should be free flow. But don't forget to control the flow level otherwise only sound no performance. there are two factors in exhaust 1. Back Pressure 2. Flow control, so both should be balanced well.

I could feel the same things.... the smell...etc...
I have a small feeling that changing the spark plugs and tuning the carb properly should be sufficient initially.

Could u please explain this in more detail?? How do we know which is induction and which is non induction filter.
Why is that we need to re-jet on an induction filter and vice versa.

i think the stock jet on rtr is 105..not sure though..i have fitted the k&n directly on the carb, left the stock filter in place and things seem to be fine..setting the correct mixture after rejetting is seriously a big head-ache..bt if u want performance u gotta give ur baby some time and need to know what she needs based on trial and error..otherwise stay away and keep her stock..i have a 125 jet in my carb, still haven't been able to set the mixture correctly bt try combinations everyday while commuting..As for splitfire chords, it's connected to my stock spark chord..this service i wud get the stock chord cut off and connect the splitfire chord directly coz for unicorn, the stock chord doesn't come off but for other bikes, it does..as far as fitting a free flow is concerned, the exhaust mouth should be 1/4-1/2 inch more in diameter to that on the stock silencer..fitting a bigger mouth results in low back pressure leading to less power output.

Induction means the one which is conical (e.g. RC1060), another one directly fits in the air box.
When u put induction filter, the filter is directly exposed to air. So quantity of the air increased at higher side. that means u also need to change the fuel ratio.

When u put stock replacement filter, due to the intake of the original air box which is small u don't need rejetting.
The peak level is higher rev up point without any jerkyness.
