  • Hero Honda Ambition Crankshaft Replacement

    Hi all,

I have a 2003 model Hero Honda Ambition. Till now it has clocked trouble-free 95000 KMS. Recently, I got its piston changed since it was burning the engine oil at a rapid pace. After changing the piston, the oil burning problem went away.

However, now, the engine makes a clicking sound whenever I start the bike. In addition, lots of smoke starts to come out of the exhaust if I ride it in heavy traffic. No smoke comes out if I take the bike on long rides where the speed remains constant. Therefore, I took the bike to the authorized service center to get the problem sorted out. The service center guys told me that the crankshaft needs replacement and the total repairs will cost about Rs 8000.

My question is that really a crankshaft problem or is something else wrong with the engine. In addition, is Rs 8000 a fair price to pay for the said repairs?

    Please help.

Get second opinion from Castrol bike service centers. These people helped me solve the tilted steering problems that Bajaj SC never found out. 8k is a big amount mate. That won't add too much to your resale either. Better to upgrade now

Price of crankshaft cannot be more than 4-5K (extreme pricing) add to that a labour of Rx 1K, provided, the crankshaft is a faulty one. I'd second Animeher's suggestion.

Thanks to all for the inputs. I agree that it is time to upgrade, but I am planning to upgrade to at least a 250 cc bike, as I love touring, and am just saving some cash to fulfill that wish. In the meantime, I need to use my ambi for commute. That is why I asked the question.

And aargee, yes I joined in 2009, but I was lazy to introduce myself all this time. I will take your suggestion and introduce myself soon in the Who are you section of the forum.

          Regards.

the clicking sound might be from the tappets. I dont think the crankshaft can cause oil in exhaust. check valve stem oil seals & valve stem to guide clearance. have the piston rings been installed properly?

8000 is exorbitant ! The crank for my xtreme cost me 2900INR. The one for the amby too should not be more than 3000

Congratulations. You should thank xbhp and the xbhpians and give a stinker mail to HH guys on the 8K estimate!!!
