  • Where should I register my bike

Hi, I had booked a Classic 500 Eight months ago and I should be getting it in a week or so. I reside in Bangalore currently but have to shift to Mumbai in a month or so. I have all intentions of coming back to Bangalore in 2 - 3 years but nothing is certain yet.

Should I register my bike in bangalore and take it to Mumbai?
Can I take my bike to Mumbai without registration and get it registered there?

    Please advise?

If you are coming back to banglore after 2 years then why you need to register at mumbai, Just register it at banglore.
I am from kerala and my friend studying in Banglore, he will get his new pulsar 180 this week he will register here and take it to balglore for 2 years after his studies over he will back.

      So register at you hometown(banglore)

Thanks. What about the road tax? Will I have to pay it Mumbai as well?

The showroom guys will not hand over the RC book without registering....you will have to take it to mumbai and if required (Only if you are going to stay back in Mumbai) you will have to do a re register, else pay the additional road tax if any in Mumbai and keep using it.

            Here is a suggestion:

I live in Mumbai and I can tell you that the RTO laws here are very strict. In case you register your bike in Bangalore and plan to ride it in Mumbai, you will have to pay the road tax and octroi tax here in Mumbai and will need the NOC certificate from the Bangalore RTO too. Otherwise the traffic cops will not let you live peacefully.

So, I would suggest you come to Mumbai first, buy a new bike here itself and get it registered here in Mumbai. If you ever want to go back to Bangalore, you can sell the bike off here itself (believe me, it's easy to sell it off in Mumbai) or you can take the bike to Bangalore. You can then get the bike re-registered in Bangalore since you are a native of Bangalore.

Also, if you decide to get the bike registered in Mumbai, make sure you get yourself a postpaid mobile connection with a local Mumbai address. The RTO people trust a local mobile bill address blindly. Otherwise, you will have a lot of trouble registering the bike in Mumbai since you wouldn't be having any local address proof.
