  • Help with Bullet 1980

    Hello All,

I have a 1980 STD Bullet and its very well maintained. I was planning to get some mods done on it. I would like to know if these mods are possible and how much it would cost.

For better braking, I was planning to install disc brakes of the C500 with 18" rim. Do I need to install Fork Legs also from C500?
    Whats the total cost involved?

As I am changing the front to 18", I would like to change the rear also to 18" of Classic. Is it possible? Cost?

I am not aware of the current sprocket configuration. As I am downsizing the rim size, the gears will be shortened. So which sprocket should I put to stabilize the gear changes ?

What is the cost of split seats?

My Bullet has CB point ignition (I think I used correct terminology, something they say as point set). Is it possible to use something latest so that I don't have to ask my mech to keep adjusting the point set now and then. I don't know why but it keeps screwing now and then. Cost involved?

    Thanks
    Shree

        Hi there,

I have a STD 350 CI 2009 model and got the CB point replaced with an electronic kit from Eureka. I got this kit installed about 5000kms back and it has been trouble free ever since. I purchased it and also got it installed from the manufacturer in Mumbai before they moved out of Mumbai.
The same kit was being used by showroom guys eariler. It is a failry simple process and anyone with basic electornics knowledge should be able to install it and it does not take more than 15 minutes. Do remember to get the timing checked with your mechanic immediately after the installation though.

The electronic kit comes with a magnetic ring that is installed on the Delco shaft that is bare after removing the points. There is some sort of gadget that is the size of a small mobile phone that is either installed in the side tool box or underneath the seat.

The advantages are that you can revert back to CB points in the unlikely event of something going wrong with this setup. Once the timing is set you need not bother about checking it unless you want to advance or retard the timing to suit your requirement. Rains do not pose any threat, hence you need not worry if the weather is damp etc. Do pm me for further details.
