  • Need help with a Engine swapping !!!

    Hi Guys,

I have a query which is very straight. I got issues with my Avenger 200 for last couple of months. Its not free reversing and refinement is not even fair to be frank. Its loosing its breadth after 65 km/h in 20 kms of run. Avenger lacks a very important stuff - RPM meter, which is making things difficult to tell if its idealing is set correctly. I have visited service centers so many times and it made no progress either in my bike performance or knowledge of the mechanics there . Last time a mechanic told that it may have fault in the engine and they may have to get it open to check (If they have limited knowledge of diagnosing the issue, not sure what they gonna do after opening the engine completely). Now inspite of going for a new Bike (which I thought is the only way to get ride of the bike with fault ) I thought if its possible to swap the engine and gear system with the new P220 Dtsi one on this very bike.
My maths says, I may end up saving some money in this case rather then going for new bike.

New Bike - Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSI - Rs 85,000 (approx)
    HH karizma R - Rs 84,000 (approx)
Old bike - Bajaj Avenger 200 - Rs 45,000 (almost)

Left with Rs 40,000 of difference. In case I can spend 20 K and get my bike fixed, I will be more happy then ever as I don't want to loose my tourer.

Please suggest me if this can be done(or anything better ) and a good mechanic in Chennai who can get this pumped up.

If you could tell us the problem you are facing...

And dude you can also go for after-market rpm meter... many are using here...
you can find one in GP road i suppose...
Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect You need to be on road, not what brand your riding gears are.

BUDDY, if you are getting it done from someone, i would advise you to stop and relly think over if it is necessary... if its only for cheap thrills, the setup would be don at a cost and will work horribly..

if you are doing it for passion, do it yourself... you will value what you are doing.....

i have learnt this the hard way hence cautioning you.. engine swap is not a bolt on job.. it takes months to get the engine. then it takes weeks to get it assembled and not make the bike look like "jim cary with muscles of arnold".

then it will take a couple of months to get the alignments perfected. and then you will realize that you have not saved anything in terms of the sheer cost, neither in terms of looks, and you will probably regret the decision of swapping the engine...

my advice is better stay away if you are doing this just because you have a bike, you think its no god in the current state so you want a fast bike. cos in this case, you will be better off buying a new bike...

                Thanks for all the suggestions,
I have checked with few xbhp members and they have referred me to some good mechanics who can help me out.

                Issues :
                1. Bike is not comfortable after 65 to 70 km/h as its gives too much of vibs and make sound as its hitting a ton.
                2. I have been to long rides on many occasions but it never felt out of breadth after few km rides on 90 km/h, it happens now.
                3. Left foot rest for the rider give horrible vibs and can't tolerate after just 20 kms of continues driving for speed around 60km/h.
                4. If hitting 100+ with lot of effort , then give give miss firing and acceleration goes free and can't do anything but to come down and drive slowly.

Do you want a higher capacity engine in there? its not difficult to install a 220 engine in there. If you want, may be you can install a bigger engine as well Multicyl. Seriously interested, Lemme know.

I couldnt catch "accleration going free" ???
Do a compresion test..., and i suggest you to go ahead with the B.A.S.S (you can always claim a responsibilty in case of any mistakes from their part, go for an inspection alone and decide between a local mech and BASS later on the repair jobs..) and ask them to just inspect it and take a decision in proceeding a replacement or a repair later, be with them, inspect the bore, piston, piston rod, crank, carburetor, clutch assembly, Engine oil flow..
what is your odometre reading. when did you last replace your clutch plates, ask them to check the whole assembly.
Post your findings here and ask experts like psr and nanotechnology..

Do you have any modifications done on it...?

I dont think the costs of repair or replacements would be nearer to the cost of a new bike..

Its just that after twisting the accelerator for some degree, i get 100km/h but after that there is lot of room to twist my wrist to get more but nothing happens , it sits on 100 for rest of my journey to increase the acceleration till last bit.

I will be going to Bajaj Service center for one last time and see if anything can be done, or else I will do something for sure to get ride of all the issues.

Will post the things here asap.
