    Default Cylinder head bolts are slipped.

    Hi,
    I hav a Yamaha RX 135 4 speed (2000 model) for last 10 years (Actually, I am in love with her for a long time). I do all service and necessary checkups by own. Engine has been done (bored) two times and this time (in March2010) I fixed the new slip (as mechanics call it) with standard size piston. It ran well for 4 months, but few days earlier I saw oil leaking from cylinder head. I opened cylinder cap and when I refixed, 3 out of 4 bolts (studs) got slipped. Two out of 4 studs were already oversized earlier.

    My concerns are: Can an oversize stud be fixed again on the same or I need to buy a new/used cylinder kit?

    Can anyone elaborate on where I can get new or used cylinder kit in Delhi/Noida?

    Some necessary data about my RX 135:

    Kilometers done: More than 65k.
    Year of manufacturing: May 2000
    Fuel Efficiency: 35-40 Kpl on an average speed below 60. (It falls down after speeding over 60+).

    If I were you, I would go for another sleeved/oversized cylinder. Reason?
    1. Always prefer sticking to originals as there're always problems with Indian juggad & that too when 2 out of 4 of them are non standard size
    2. Since the bolt studs are oversized (not sure by how much), the gaskets also has to be tweaked losing the OE sizes
    3. Since you're running a slip (called as sleeve) & not originals, you can always find or exchange the sleeved cylinder with another but with OE bolt studs
    4. All the more, its easy to fix the OE parts than the tweaked ones

    Once I came through the same situation on my car and the mechanic being my friend did some thing which was really amazing.

    He just bought a big size bottle of chellak (used for plumbing) and a bundle of thread. He damped the studd threads in chellak and twisted the ( Cotton) thread on the studd and tightened it, lasted for a long period. I had a doubt what would happen if it was heated, But he was very sure that it would do.

    Does any body have any idea on this - is it advisable for the job?

    Yes, I understand what this is about; I guess you're talking about applying Shellac for adding thickness which is a temporary fix for the moment. Now, this is what I call as Indian Juggad!!!!

    There're numerous problems following the Juggad work & most Indians like doing this as its very cheap & fixes the problem for now & this is no way a common practice in abroad.

    In your case, the studs are fixed with shellac is fine, but you see, if the cylinder needs to be removed, its going to be one hell of a job. Also the shellac is prone to get softened often (not liquified or melt) due to the heat from the engine. Not sure what're the long term impacts due to shellac being softened often. Also don't forget the stain marks of shellac on the cylinder.

    Let me give a real time scenario - if the cylinder needs to be rebored, just imagine the pain of removing the stud. Ok, if the stud is removed, imagine the juggad once again to put it back. What is actually a 10 minutes work becomes 10 hours job!!!. Don't ask me what if the stud can't be removed, I leave that to your imagination.

    Like I said before, the problem is fixed for now, but on long terms, it creates more problems than the fix itself.

    if thread on the cylinder is spoiled you have to fix it at a lathe .they will fix a brass or a steel bush and make new thread . other option is replace the cylinder since it is rebored enough.
