  • Hero Honda Pleasure run in techniques.

    Hello friends,

Finally, we got the delivery of my gf's bike (HH Pleasure) yesterday i.e.3rd April' 2011. She is very happy to have got the bike...
Thanks to all the members for their valuable suggestions for helping me to zero down my money for HH Pleasure.
Now, as I have got the bike delivered, I was looking for some help on run in techniques/speed limits to be maintained.
I have owned 2 bikes in the past, so I am aware of the run in techniques and of maintaining the speed/rev limits, keppint it under 4k rpm.. But I a total noob with a non geared bike..
Can you all please help with some valuable suggestions...

Refer, read & reread the owner's manual & abide by it & you'll be fine

omkar'jee , Registration of bike is done with the govt RTO office while the owners manual is provided by the Hero Honda company to every owner when the vehicle is purchased and handed over . I am assuming that your Hero Honda dealer gave you this usual bunkum . DO press on them to provide you the owners manual , tool-kit , first-aid kit and warranty slip for the battery seperately alongwith your purchase , other than the usual purchase papers . Be aware of another of their usual trick , forcing you to pay for HeroHonda goodlife membership and extended warranty telling that these are compulsory with the bike purchase .... they are totally optional items ...

It is easier to obtain the owner's manual from the dealer rather than a PDF copy. Know your rights & demand for one. Why would the dealer not hand over the owner's manual to you unless its made out of Gold.

Congrats!! Pleasure is indeed a very good bike and my ultimate choice for my GF and SIS..
HH Pleasure's manual says,During run-in avoid full throttle starts and accelerating to high speeds as you start the engine. Also dont cruise on the same RPM for long and rapid changes in throttle. That's it! (Not the exact words, but i had read it sometime before..)

Man i ride it on the highway upto 85kmph and dont think the engine complains!!! But yes they heat up a lot so avoid long journeys on high speed.. (I know girls wont go on high speeds on a new bike..)
You gotta risk it.. to get da biscuit !!!

True and that is what my answer was to the HH dealer too, but he said I will get the manual only after the registration... The problem is that I am in Pune and my gf is in Mumbai (as I am basically a Mumbaite, but work in Pune) .. So she wont be able to talk to the dealer and I have to wait until this sat to personnaly visit the dealer and talk to him...
I received the tool kit and first aid kit but no warrant slip for the battery or any other paper.. Will be checking with them this sat...
and yes sir, I was forced to pay the HH goodlife membership and extended warranty.. I was infact forced to buy the accessories too ...
The FortPoint dealer in Mira road was a nightmare experience for me..The guy Kedar was worst and a pain... What ATTITUDE, freaks !!!!
NEVER EVER visit the mira road FortPoint dealer...

@ Aargee : As stated above, since I am in pune, I am unable to check with the dealer personnaly but will be doing that this sat... Thanks for your suggestion...

@ Metal Maniac: Thanks bro for your inputs.. They indeed are very valuable...
My gf wanted a scooty pep (read: bebolicious) for the orange color they were offering ..But I convinced her to buy the Pleasure

@All : Would appreciate if someone could still manage to provide the manual in pdf format... Thanks...
And any advise on the run in would certainly of great help ...

Most of the HeroHonda dealers are like that only ... good bikes with very poor warranty / parts / service support . Cheater dealerships . Since the bikes sell by themselves almost .. they don't care . This has been the history of many companies in India , in any business ; nobody remains market leaders forever , which they tend to forget . I have dealt with two such in my lifetime .. rajdoot-yamaha dealers in the 90s and then HeroHonda now ... and lived to see the first one pulled down by their own dealer/service network , next is ??
Sorry for your purchase experience ... but the bike is fine , don't worry abt tht .
As for the run-in ... mainly....
                  1) go easy on throttle / clutch / brakes everything for the first 1000 kms .
Generally don't speed past 50 for the first 500k .
( personally ,I do a few short controlled bursts upto 80 and use engine braking a lot . It prevents cylinder glazing , but that is controversial , so up to you )
                  2) don't ride in constant speed , vary the throttle .
                  3) don't rev the engine at morning , use choke . Idle for 2-3 mins before riding on .
                  4) do change engine oil with HH oil at 500-600 kms at first free service .
                  5) check tyre pressure frequently , new tubes tend to lose pressure quicker .
                  6) don't ride continuously for long ...the new engine will heat up a lot ... keep feeling the engine bay area .. if too hot .. rest her a bit .
                  7) keep an eagle eye out for anything you feel or see is not ryt with the bike and report to the authorised service center immediately .
Who knows , they may even honour their warranty .
                  8) Must must must wear helmet . Try to keep the rubber side down .
