If the case was sticky rings do you think that the cylinders and all are not worn out?
First think you are special then work towards proving it.

Sticky rings will happen only if the engine oil had not been changed in time and had become dirty and lost it's property....as also if there is leak of engine oil in the upper cylinders...It can also happen if bad or old fuel is used.In 2 stroke engines de-carbonizing is done because of the oil presence in the upper cylinder by way of the lubricating 2T...even then it takes at least 15 to 20 K Kms to warrant it.
In 4 ST A rich mix will cause soot formation in all the exhaust path and sure enough the Cat.con will be ruined. The carbon formation in the chamber will also be sooty..ie., DRY black carbon and will not stick in the absence of oil, except for slight coating.Unlike the carbon produced due to oil burning this will not be hard and will be powder like in consistency...just my thought

just claim warranty on hero honda before your warranty ends. and don't tell them this choke thing from start to 350 km thing. just put some pressure on them to change the whole thing.

I called up hero honda head office yesterday and they said that they have put some modified piston rings and asked me not to worry about it and the piston rings would last atleast for another 30-40k kms. Are these guys telling the truth?

There are no " modified piston rings" ...If they had put oversize rings then it may run for some time and then go kaput...Piston Rings are matched to their respective Piston size and tolerance.

if you have got problem once... it will remain forever until its rectified completely. You need to give them a strong reason to claim the warranty and get all defected parts replaced. If you think bike is performing well .. no white smoke .. no vibrations , no oil leaks and no oil level drop then its fine. Else you need to fight with them to get it fixed.
Did they replace the rings with titanium rings hehe

That is the first thing HeroHonda does whenever anyone claims warranty - try to convince him that there is no problem in the bike at all .
Next , if you persist they will say it is all your own fault causing this damage to the bike . Then again - that part you have fault in , is not really covered under warranty .. for this that reasons , etc etc ... Purely routine with HeroHonda authorised dealer's service centres , supported by the HeroHonda officials , because these dealers are the guys that get them their monthly sales figures and promotions . This is from my personal experience here in kolkata .
What is even more frightening that just to avoid a petty warranty claim settlement , they will do these temporary jugaad jobs , like they did something with your piston rings , causing further damage to the bike in the long run . I have decided not to avail my remaining warranty & free-services anymore . i love my bike .

If i want to do all the repairs myself what would be the total cost including labour and what parts need to be changed?

HH had recently reduced their spares price and for some time dual pricing will rule..ie., till old stock is cleared..Going by the price for a ZMA ..a bore+Piston+rings+pin+ pin lock etc., will cost approximately 2,500/-.for parts alone.

That's pretty downright reasonable , considering that yamaha is asking 6000-8000 Rs for a the same piston-cylinder kit for my RX135 , damn !!

@Anush - step one - pinpoint exactly what the problem is with the bike . either from the HeroHonda authorised service center ( I doubt they'll be so forthcoming ) , or an reasonably experienced , good & honest local mechanic ( finding which is a task in itself ). After that the repair part would be quite simple ... these are really simple machines .

That is because it is a discontinued model and IN DEMAND.

Either way @Anush you must choose wisely...going with HH is a better option since the mechanics will be hopefully trained and knowledgeable of the bike.
