  • Adjusting Air fuel mixture

Guys, how can we change the air fuel mixture of the bike. I'm using a Pulsar 135 and someone said to rotate the golden color nut near the throttle cable to adjust it, but by how much is a problem.I think the mixture is too lean on my bike.So need to to increase the fuel going in.Please put some light.

The golden colour screw near the throttle cable is NOT used to change Air-Fuel Ratio(AFR). It is the idling screw and fiddling with it will only change the RPM at which your bike idles (i.e. the RPM it maintains by itself in neutral when you let go of the throttle)

I think you can find the procedure to tuning the AFR of a carburettor in one of the links in my signature. Read it thoroughly before attempting. Even though the link may tell you how to do it on a P220, the basic procedure is same for all bikes so that should not be an issue.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Clockwise is lean, counter clockwise is rich. The ideal setting should be all the way in and 2 to 2 1/2 turns out. If you are not sure of what you are doing, get it set by an experienced mech.

I suggest you to get it done by your SVC.Its not very easy to get the mix,esp if you dont know what you are doing.SVC will do it for free too!

Thanks for everyone. The SVC is closed for about a week due to the sinhala hindu new year. I'll try a local mechanic. The thing is bike is not pulling as well as it used to do after the service. I have to do some long journeys in the coming week.

@jd666, I followed your method myself. results are good. Here's how I did it,
the nut was pretty tight in the beginningI turned one 360 degree turn anticlockwise- not satisfied
turned another 1/4 turn-nearly got it
turned another 1/4 turn further-got it

Hope I'm not using too rich mix now.
              Thank you again

to verify the mix quality remove the LH spark plug and see the colour of the tip. If the colour is towards the whiter side, the mix is lean. IF it is black it is rich. If it is dark brown, the mix is perfect.

such tunings are best avoided, but still if required refer to a thread here at xbhp which explains the process in detail.

Here is one of the spark plugs; Is it OK? I took the photo after running about 25kms from changing the AFR screw
