  • Is there any benefit of split seats in bikes?

Hi guys, Is there any benefit of split seats in bikes? Yes split seats look awesome, but they are one hell of a thing to deal with. Being a chubby guy, its so frustrating when my body touches the point exactly of the split! It's causing lotsa pain in that funny tail bone, yes I have added 2 extra thick layers of soft sponge for cushioning. Still that extra 1-1.5 inch increased height of rear seat is troubling me. Please suggest a solution, TIA. Regards.

      Which bike is this?

They are supposed to be more comfortable and easy to move around for the rider. No idea about the pillion.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

for city riding its worst. its a pain in ass. riding with pillion is pathetic.pillion tends to come in front at every braking. had experience in pulsar 1880 UG4. pls try to avoid. only my view. some may like it
Don't research too much while purchasing, else you will commit blunder

If your pillion keeps falling on the rider, thats because the pillion is not supporting himself/herself correctly. Correct way would be to keep hands on the tank ( around the rider ). So if the rider has to brake, the pillion gets support by pressing against the tank.

Also better aerodynamics, and a tail support to the rider under extreme acceleration.

No. Considering that even traditional seats are higher at the rear, split seats don't really offer much of an advantage in any situation.

In fact, its more of a disadvantage, as:

                  1. you'll have to remove 2 seats to remove the entire seat setup.
                  2. the split seat setup gives a lot more height to the pillion, which may well be smaller in build than the rider, like rider's mother, sister, etc.

Looks might be the only advantage. Or maybe removable rear seat helps in weight saving, when you're racing...?

@ Curious: That's sad to know, but you should have gone for a test ride before purchasing the bike, did you?
