  • Help regarding pulsar 150 maintenence

Hey, I do not have any idea about these things. I own a Pulsar 150 ug4. It has till date clocked 23000 kms. I have got it regularly serviced with oil change at 2500 kms. But now I'm experiencing a huge drop in performance especially pickup. Sometimes after slowing down even those Passions can easily overtake me..
I got it checked at Bajaj Authorised Service station & he told me to get everything changed from spark plugs, clutch plates air & oil filter to something in the engine(dont remember). Then I showed it to my roadside mechanic(he serviced my previous Hero Honda Splendor) & he told me that there is absolutely no problem, cleaned the spark plugs, oil change but no use.. I really miss the performance that my bike used to have before....

I need help of all you experienced people out there to restore the performance of my bike..

One more thing, I read here in the forums about changing spark plugs after 10-15k. My bike starts on the first push of button, so do I neeed to change them??

if you have never changed your spark plugs till date, its better to change it. But if your bike's spark plug are never changed, that means you bike is not serviced properly. are you telling the truth that you have always serviced it properly. please don't hide anything.

Yes I got it serviced regularly.. It was in the last service that Bajaj guy told me to get the spark plug changed as my bike has crosssed 20k but an other mechanic told me that I can continue using the same plugs as they are alright if the bike starts properly..

That's what i want to know if the bike starts properly, do the plugs need to be changed??
Will I gain some improvement in performance if I change the Spark Plugs??

Simply change the plugs. And, stay away from the mechanic who told you that !

You won't be having a drastic improvement if you change the spark plugs.

You have what they call a leaking head , I mean the bike engine does . It is not going to be maintenance issue anymore soon , it will need an overhaul .

If you are missing on the performance .. check the following.. while riding the bike if the RPM's are increasing but the speed is not increasing in proportion to that means the power generated is not getting transfered to wheels... get the clutch plates changed.

The leaking head is no big issue .. just get the cap changed and get the head sealed properly. Bajaj guys know how to fix it as they get it every now and then.

Spark plug shouldn't be an issue in performance. Check the Air filter though.

                        Help !!!

                        Using an old thread

My bike's mileage is going down with time. The ODO curently reads 26k. About 800 kms ago, got the Engine reboring done & piston-ring replaced. The mechanic at that time said that clutch plates are fine. No need to replace them.
Previously I was seldom getting 40kmpl but after engine overhaul, following a run-in period of 500kms, I got 319 kms on 10 litres of petrol. That's less than 32
I have checked the spark plugs, they are fine. Not lean & not rich. I have also tried tuning my carb, but this has so far yielded no results.

Please guide me where the probelm lies. Even the CBR250 owners get a beeter fuel efficiency.

If carb tuning is fine, you can check if your air filters are clogged or not.
What about your chain and sprockets, they are good?
And do you check your tyre pressures regularly?
Check and see for any jammed brake shoes/pads by rotating the wheels?

If nothing helps, check if the boring has been done good, by doing a compression test in a BAJAJ service center.

Air Filter is clean. Chain & Sprockets are good too.
Tyre pressure is checked once a week(It doesn't go down that much).
                            Have already checked for brakes.

Have heard about this compression test for the first time. Will look for it.

P.S. I got a mileage of around 40 while my other friends claimed that there Pulsars easily give above 50. I learnt to live with it. But.. 32 is just

Cylinder re-bored but you did not use new oversize piston ?
                              OR
Did you use over-sized piston rings ?

Maybe you should check the FE after completing at-least 2000kms and USE a measuring 100ml bottle connected directly to carb.

If that also doesn't work, better get a compression test.
