  • My Pulsar 150 UG2 has problems

My pulsar 150 UG2 , which ran around 21000 kms. A week back there was an oil leak problem , so got it fixed(some oil seal which costs around 600 bucks ) and replaced the old oil with a new Motul 3000 20w-40. A week later due to heavy rain my engine coil got shorted out , which costed me 1000 bucks for replacing it too. All these are done through a local mechanic , who is quite knowledgable compared to other bajaj service centers in Banglaore . But now whenever my bike crosses 40km/h , it gives a jerk as if I am running out of petrol (though bike has around 5 litres of petrol ). Moreover RPM is not going beyond 5000 which is were stuttering starts !So what could be the problem here. Tired of all the array of problems creepin up for past a month. FYI: NO 3rd party accessories are fitted into my bike.

    Additional Questions
Because of these series of problems , I am postponing my upgrades for my bike , which are as follows(kindly do gimme some suggestions):

    1. Want to fit HID light from philips/Osram for better road visiblity
    2. K&N filters needs additional engine valve tuning?
    3. Are there any run flat tires for Pulsar? if so any pricing details on it !.Morever my mechanic tells me that if i happen to puncture the tubeless tires(what is the difference between run flat vs tubeless) , then it's very hard to operate on that puncture than normal tires.

4.If i fit HID light do I need projectors too?

      1. Want to fit HID light from philips/Osram for better road visiblity there are good quality cheaper ones also available.

4.If i fit HID light do I need projectors too?
it is recommended, if you can afford, better go for projectors.

When you changed your ignition coil , did you buy the Bajaj genuine part or local one ? Were you there in person when it was fitted by the mechanic ? Also there are loads of fake bajaj parts floating the market apparently , this was in the news too .Check that coil again .

            @princesirohi : I'm staying in Bangalore.

@Pinaki : I was not there when he was doing the job in it. But he told me that he only uses original spare parts from bajaj.

@Vishnups17 : Tuning ? ... means the throttle tuning and AFR tuning ?

Check for current Distributor Coil (Which will be beneath the slot where the seat goes under the coil)-Most times ,when you wash the vehicle or ride in the rain, this is the main culprit.

Get the Carb cleaned - May be rain water has entered the carb( most likely this is not the case, since you are experiencing the problem only after 5k

              Check Spark plugs
Is your bike switching off when you rev more than 5k???
Also small suggestion K&N and Bajaj don't seem to go well together somehow.Even if you increse the jet dia and tune the engine, things don't go well together.

Tubeless tyres are the most convinient. The answer from y
our mech is because most puncture wallas are still not aware of how to treat a tubeless tyre puncture. It is a simple DIY job any tom dick and harry can do at home.Check out MRF Zapper series. Tried and Tested very much durable.

The 5000rpm mark problem existed in my bike too right after the oil seal change....PLEASE CHECK THE SPARK PLUG FITTING....MINE WAS WRONGLY INSTALLED AND IT HAD CRACKED INSIDE THE CHAMBER...PLEASE CHECK URS TOO...MIGHT BE THE SAME PROBLME....(TRY THIS IN NEUTRAL-- ACCELERATE STANDSTILL SEE IF YOU CAN HEAR BREAKING NOISE AROUND 5000RPM AND PULL) IF THATS THE SYMPTOMS THEN YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUG WHICH HAVE WRONGLY INSTALLED.....

When my bike goes beyond 5000 rpm , u'll get a feel that engine is some what choking , this is like "the bike , when petrol in tank is about to get over , u might get a feel like engine is reving up and down (in that case if u engage the clutch the bike will switch off ),and then we move the fuel cork to reserve " and bike goes normally , same as here when i'm below 5000 rpm the bike responds as it should , but beyond 5000rpm the bike starts to say "stammer".

Man, thats the same feeling I'm talking about . Moreover did ur bike get hotter than usual for shorter distances , at that point ?.. On Humor side , " These problems started coming up after i removed the shirt(tank cover ) of my bike so as to show it's muscle , may be it's getting cold , fever or something being half dressed like that " !! .

EXACTLY....very hot after short rides to market which are 2-3 kms away from home......Dude pls check the spark plug installation....one of it will be so tightly installed that it will resist to come out...the threads will be jammed up....my running took place to office too so under immense pressure it broke inside...i abused those SVC guys after such a problem....they were saying its a problem of clutch plates....bloody did a wheelie in front of em to show its not....

Now that you know what it is, I suggest dont ride your bike unless you plan it for repairs....check the threading and fitting of both the spark plugs of your bike...the hammering issue starts at 4.5k RPM and ends around 6k RPM.
ALSO DONT FORCE THE SPARK PLUG IF ITS NOT COMING OUT AS IT CAN BREAK AND YOU MIGHT NEED TO CHANGE THE ENTIRE COVER....APPLY WD-40 IF ITS TOO TIGHT...IT WILL HELP IN LOSENING THE THREADS....TAKE A DAY OFF TO DO IT IN RIGHT MANNER DO NOT HURRY CZ ITS VERY SENSITIVE....REPLACE WITH NEW ONES....BUT DO CHECK!!!!

RPM not going above 5000 - Check you air filter and carburettor
Engine coil replacement - By Engine Coil, if u meant the stator coil, Cost of Avenger stator coil is 532 INR.. I dont know if a 150 UG2 would cost 1000 bucks.. and replacing it is just a 10 mins job.. (I have done that DIY ..its simple)

Try disengaging each spark plugs..(wrking with singe one)

Want to fit HID light from philips/Osram for better road visiblity - Philips HID would cost you 4500 INR (I believe it comesonly in pairs @ 9000 INR) + Projector extra

Morever my mechanic tells me that if i happen to puncture the tubeless tires , then it's very hard to operate on that puncture than normal tires.
_ Then what is the point in buying tubeless tires?? (point punctures)

If i fit HID light do I need projectors too - Yes.. It's illegal to run with HID w/o projectros.. You wanna blind the on-coming traffic??? (Frustrated!!!!!!!!)

                              Good luck dude!!!
