  • [Photo Feature]: Performance Upgrades to Discover 125DTSi

After my recent Thread in the "What Bike?" Section, I have been adviced and accordingly have decided to wait for the New iterations of the Pulsars.
However, my current bike would not be sold, rather handed over to a cousin of mine (I can't bear to lose my first bike). He's a young chap and would definitely like a little more performance.
I am thinking of the Following Mods.
NOTE : The Engine Chamber of my bike looks Similar to the P150 from outside, so, I am under the impression that Mods to the P150 can be taken as a reference when doing it to mine. (I might be thinking like a fool here)....

    1) Better Braking. This is one thing where the Discover fails big time.
Planning to get the Disk Brake Setup from the P150 (Silver colored wheels and shocks).
I believe I would need the following things.
    > Alloy wheel from P150 supporting Disk Brake Setup.
    > The Disk Brake Kit (Brake pads, Mounts, Disc).
    > Shock Absorbers which have the mounting points for the Disk pads.
    > Anything else? (I don't know)
    2) Engine Rebore to 135 or 150 cc. I think for the 135, the Disc.135 Piston and other things can be used.
    3) My rear shocks have taken a huge beating on my Parli Trip and I would be replacing them. However, in a dilemma whether to replace them with the normal SnS suspension or the new Nitrox ones.

    4) K&N Filter, if any along with the upjetting.

Also, is there any competent Mechanic that someone can guide me to in Hyderabad to perform the above tasks ?
Looking for advice and suggestions from all the experts.

    Thanks in advance.

You have ansered yourself on the disk brake part.. Go ahead with that..
        ENGINE REBORING:
I don't think increasing your cc by 10 is not recommended though possible.. You should rebore it by .75mm only (3rd size). And then you can increase its compression ratio (it has its own set of cons).

        SUSPENSION:
SNS both seemed same on performance to me. So I've got no idea about that.

        K&N:
doesn't worth the money & time, though gives a slight boost.

Others: you can bolt on few gauges like techo, oil temperature etc. Your young cousin may like it....

          Thanks for the reply Honda_CBF.
I will soon upgrade to the Disk Brakes. Also get a new Set of rear Shocks. I need to check about the Tacho though. It'd be good.
K&N, though a rage a couple of years ago seems to have almost no takers now. I was anyways not really intent on that.
All that remains now is the Engine rebore. Awaiting expert comments. I will talk to my local mechanic for the Shocks and Disk Brakes. He normally does a good job. But I am not very confident of his abilities in performing the engine rebore.

My question to you is, have you thought about feasibility of doing this job.. taking pain.. and what will be the outcome of it ?

Take a look at this approx estimate.
8K for front disc and alloys.
            1K for shock absorbers
            2-3K for engine rebore
            1K labour

Total comes to atleast 10K-12K. and do you think it will be worth spending this much on your discover to make it look like a little bro of pulsar which it already is.. Had I been at your place I would have sold it as it is.. and adding the money which you want to spent on mods.. buy a used Pulsar !!
