  • Headlamp Reflector Cleaning

    Hi,
I have a 2001 Honda Activa and the headlamp reflector has become dull i.e. lost shine so the light appears dull at night.
What is the best way to polish / clean the reflector ?
    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Sorry if this has not been posted anywhere else !!

there are two ways to clean the reflector...

      1. take out the headlight assembly. separate the dome and reflector using a hot air gun and then clean the reflector with any glass spray like colin etc.

      2. take out the headlight assembly. take out the bulb. and then try to clean it with a soft cloth dipped in colin.

^^^ i guess @Janesh wants to clean the outside which has become dull.
Just youtube there are many ways of doing this. Sandpaper and toothpaste are few ways. YouTube - Headlight Cleaning

If not very expensive and your headlamp is in a very bad shape just replace the reflector itself.

@kinshuk.arya. Thanks bro. Is it easy to assemble the reflector again. Will there not be problems of water leakage.

it is a simple procedure all you need to do is use the hot air gun again and then press both the dome and reflector until it sticks....

if you want to be more sure you can use silicon glue to fill up the rest of the space...

Glass fades with time and doesn't allow light to pass through completely and a layer of dust settles on the reflector which reduces reflection. Its not advisable to use any liquid on the reflective side . Try using a soft tissue or a soft cotton cloth and remove the dust from reflector .. If you are able to separate glass and reflector then it clean the glass using colin.

The glass lens is best cleaned with coiln/ amway see-spray .
No water on the reflector ever !
Wet a cotton ball with waxpol silicone liquid polish , gently coat the reflector both sides as well as the previously cleaned-up glass lens as well as other parts . Let it dry , it will fog up whitish , say in ten/twenty mins . Then buff clean all the pieces with clean soft cotton cloth , reassemble , refit . I have done this many times on many such reflector assemblies, works like a charm , no harm ever , and it doesn't get dusty or dirty or wet or rusty easily after this treatment because the polish stays on . I had shown this method to my yamaha authorised service center mechanics , and they rapidly copied this method to any bike that came in with foggy headlamp complains .
