  • Heavy Rattling noise from bike

    Hi all,
    I own a Discover 100cc (2009 model) I had these problems
    1. Heavy rattling noise from silencer heat shield (it cracked when i tried to tighten it , finally discarded it)

Now I have few more big problems
    1. One of the crucial Chassy welding points is rusted(40% already eroded)
    2. Heavy rattling from the saree guard, especially after crossing 90kmph
    3. Somehow i get this wieird feeling whenever I ride my bike that the front and back wheels are not in line(straight line as it was in the beginning)

    • I want to know, is it okay if I get the welding done from any local welding shop?
    • Is it risky to do welding on a bike with petrol in its tank?
    • Does removing saree guard cause imbalance in bike?
    • Is this problem with wheels(its called alignment i guess) permanent or it there a fix (at a reasonable price)?

I will post pics of the welding erosion in 1 day/ two. Please advice

Yes, welding can be done through local shops, but be present there all the time. I got my silencer's rust holes welded through welding shop. They know their job well.

Secondly for welding, empty tank is not necessary, but a washed & wiped bike is necessary, with petrol knob turned off. There should be no petrol leaks in your bike. After it is washed properly, all the petrol stains/ remains are gone.

Removing Saree guard does not cause an inbalance in a bike, but it can cause some inbalance or problem within the family, specially the ladies. ok, jokes apart.

If you got a tyre/ sprocket changed anytime in past, Get Wheel alignment done through a good mechanic again. No, it should not involve welding or any permanent changes.

even the road side puncture repair shops sometimes cause misalignment of rear wheel.

          1. It's ok to get it welde by some good welder preferably the one doing auto repair and not steel fabricator.
          2. Petrol can be there in tank, no issues, but do disconnect spark plug before welding.
          3. Remove saree guard if you find it useless
          4. You can get wheel bearings checked for satisfaction
          5. Lastly, I request you to upgrade to atleast 150cc, going beyond 90kmph on discover is 'news' to me.

+1 on that brother...the Bajaj Discover 100 cc is basically a 94 cc engine if I'm not mistaken...and if that puny engine can reach 90 Kmph then I must admit that Bajaj engineers are doing a marvelous job..

@ Original thread starter - Bro, seriously consider getting a bike with a bigger engine if you wanna do speeds like 90 Kmph etc...they're much more stable at such speeds and I feel would be safer too at such high speeds...don't attempt to pull off such speeds from a 100cc bike or else you will jeopardize your valuable life !!
Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)

Since it has 5 gears, it's true top speed is around 88, which translates to around 95-98 on speedo.
But, reading this line was damn funny: "Heavy rattling from the saree guard, especially after crossing 90kmph."

But yes, these speeds are unsafe on a 100cc bike, all I ever did on a 100cc was 80 kmph or so.

I could never cross the 75 Kmph mark on my Passion Plus which I don't possess anymore...that was a speedo indicated speed so we can be sure that the actual speed must not have been more than 70-72 Kmph...

No matter how hard I tried, it never crossed 75..also because it has only 4 gears and these days even the 100 cc bikes produce more power than 7.8 Bhp which the faithful Hero Honda 100cc engine did back then !

A million Thanks to all of you, for these advice. Now I am comfortable to get the welding done. I have attached the rusted welding joint photo.

Juts out of curiosity, I would like to know, is this kind of rusting common in bikes (below 55K range) or a rare case?

Could be due to combination of poor welding & vibration due to your high speeds. Get it welded from auto garage don't forget to disconnect spark plug cable before welding. You can partially dismantle parts near the troubled region and get a nice welding. Don't accept superficial welding in haste.
This is uncommon, please dismantle rear wheel had have thorough inspection as well.

Thank you so much Vipin S. especially the spark plug, since my bike had two spark plugs, i guess i need to remove both.

I will surely spend time in getting this done, will ensure a thorough welding is done.
