  • Royal Enfield TB 2006 crank malfunction

    Hello Friends,

I live in hyderabad and own a RE TB November 2006 model. I service my vehicle regularly but everytime i get it out of the service center i feel iam riding a normal 100 - 150 CC 4 stroke bike

I noticed that there was a tonking sound coming from the engine in last few days before the clutch cable came off yesterday. Actually I had it changed in the last service (a month ago). I took it to a mechanic who is saying that there is a crank malfunction and needs to get it done. The estimate is around Rs.6000/-. He says the pin and the shaft (not sure how it is referred in RE TB) has to be redone in a lathe.

    1. Is this right? Also, would it cost that much to do this kind of repair?
    2. Do you guys recommend to get it done in a lathe or buy a new assembly?
    3. Iam looking for a good mechanic in hyderabad and the service center mechanics treat a Royal enfiled like a normal 4S bike..Can some one give me information on reliable mechanics in hyderabad?
    4. One last question. I was riding my bike between 1.5 -2K RPM for the last few weeks and a max speed of 50 Kms. I was getting a mileage of around 40 KM. Is that the right speed and RPM? Is it the reason for the crank malfunction?

Looking forward to you valuable responses.

    regards

brother i am facing the same problem.
Last sunday when i was riding my bike. Khad khad sound started coming (this sound was different from regular cam kit noise ie kit kit kit and lot more louder even louder then exhaust note)from engine i had to stop because engine was not able to produce sufficient power to keep the bike going. I handed it over to a reputed mechanic, he told me that my crank is down and it seems that crank bearings are damage.

Now i have to put new cylinder kit, crank bearings and alignment of crank on lathe, even my cam kit is down so that will be replaced.
      Estimate is Rs12000
As i am typing this msg my mechanic would probably be opening my engine.
Fingers crossed lets see what comes up.

I am fed up of RE i am going to sell it and will buy some reliable machine either from honda or yamaha

Found that the crank pin was damaged

        Hi,

I just found out at the mechanic's that the crank pin is damaged. Saw the pin and one side has got more wear and tear than the other.

There was also some work on the clutch.

The total bill is 6870/- The mechanic is saying that it would be as good as new. Have seen many now to take things on face value. Keeping my fingers crossed that there are no more serious issues.

Aman, looks like you have a bigger problem. All the best.
