  • Hero Honda Splendor gear pattern

    Hello All,

I have some questions about the Hero Honda Splendor (97.2cc) gear shift pattern.

I have an older model Hero Honda Splendor (97.2cc) with normal "all-up" gear shift pattern (N-1-2-3-4).

I have heard that the later model HH Splendor (97.2cc) bikes have a different gear shift pattern (1-N-2-3-4). I would prefer this shift pattern, as it feels more like a "real" bike.

    My questions:
1/ Is the later model Splendor (97.2cc) gear shift pattern 1-N-2-3-4?
2/ What year did the gear shift pattern change to 1-N-2-3-4?
2/ Is it possible to easily change the old gear shift drum ("all-up" type), to the new gear shift drum (1-N-2-3-4 type)?

Any info about this would be appreciated.

    Ride Safe!

I really don't think it'd be that easy to change the gearing pattern.. have you tried asking the HH guys?

Thank you very much for the replies and the info. I will have to look around to see if there is some other way to do this modification...

If you are determined to do it , the cheapest way would be to buy the yamaha crux which has this exact gear system plus a primary kick, 40k onroad .

Thanks for the advice, hehe , but I am determined to do this mod, and use the Hero Honda engine. After some lateral thinking, and some hard searching, I think I may be onto a way to change the gear shift pattern to 1-N-2-3-4, and this modification will cost less than buying a new bike (I hope) .

To do this I am going to need some used Hero Honda 92.7cc engines to experiment on.

I have asked at some bike shops in Mumbai, but I am finding it difficult to get good quality, used engines. Do you have any tips on the best places to buy good quality, used 92.7cc Hero Honda engines?

Any advice would be appreciated. If I can get some used 92.7cc Hero Honda engines to experiment on, I am sure I will be able to convert the gear-box to 1-N-2-3-4 gear pattern .

If it is possible to do the conversion, hopefully this info will be helpful for others as well.

The splendor engine is 97.2cc , it will be very difficult to source because the splendor ( and the CD / dawn /passion ) are such well-loved reliable long-lasting bikes ( and engines ) that you won't find them in scrap easily , and when you do they'll be really really scrap .
On the other hand I suggested the yamaha crux since it is the cheapest (on-road 40k) bike which has the 1-N-2-3-4 gear pattern , a primary kick , great torque and in many ways a better bike than the splendor . You'll save money and trouble in the long run than to tinker with the famous honda 97.2 workhorse . You could even try to source the yamaha crux 106.7cc engine (with gearbox and all) itself , new from yamaha ; and if you do find a way to fix it to the splendor , I'll buy the bike .

OK, been working on this for a while now, so a progress report is due.

I have stripped the engine down, and re-built several times, and from what I can see, I am 97.5% sure this mod is possible (with just 2.5% of uncertainty remaining ). I want to remove that 2.5% of uncertainty, and need a good diagram of the Splendor transmission to do this.

I have looked for a service manual, or parts manual, or diagram of the HH Splendor transmission on line, but have not been able to find anything...

Does anyone know if there is a diagram of the Splendor (or similar) transmission on line? Or if there is a downloadable service manual, or parts manual available? If I have a good diagram of the transmission, I think I can crack this tough nut. I believe I am very, very close.

                        Pinaki,
Sourcing crux engine to splendor will be very difficult plus it will not work properly
Firstly Splendor engine is horizontal engine whereas crux engine is vertical hence I dont think there will be enough space between the fuel tank and the engine to fit properly.
Secondly,Carburretor of Splendor is different hence air-fuel ratio of splendor and crux are different hence after fitting crux engine, the bike will not work properly. It will have lot of efforts to adjust the correct a-f ratio hence he will also have to alter and fit crux carb on splendor

Also Clutch settings of Yamaha and Hero Motocorp bikes are totally different hence more work on these
Again the splendor silencer will not fit to the crux hence he has to buy a new silencer for crux.

It will cost minimum 20 to 25 thousand(8-10 thousand for engine, crank etc,4000 for carb, around 2000 for silencer and other charges and labor costs)

So keeping all these things in mind,it will be a costly affair.

Hence it will be better to get a new Crux if he is insisting on gear pattern.
