    Help Needed on RE THUNDERBIRD CARB Problem

    Hello Fellow Riders,

    Seeking valuable suggestion for the problem i am facing now.


    Had been on a ride till Goa along with my better half and when returning somewhere near HAVERI on PB road my bullet started giving trouble. The following are the points noticed.


    1. It refused to move after engaging to 1st gear.
    2. The sound was as if some one was pressing the throat and suffocated for breath/choking effect.

    3. I replaced the air filter then and there and still the problem persisted.

    4. After sometime it obliged and moved slowly and then the throttle response is very less.
    5. When the RPM is 3000 the bullet hardly reaches 45-50 km/hr speed and feels as if it is dying and difficult to breath


    Reached Bangalore and gave it for service and informed my mechanic about the problem, He did a general service and cleaned the carb and no major problem was discovered, He is stating that the carb has a problem and has to be replaced! But he is unable to tell me what exactly is the problem in the carb?


    Has anyone faced the same problem? Please advise.

      @lonely rider.. buddy i'm facing similar problems with my TBTS. I too replaced the air-filter, the bike ran smoothly for a day but the problems came back again.

      Have u figured out the problem yet ? Please help.

        The RE Tbird runs a CV carb. Which is often not opened fully and cleaned properly ( the diaphragm is generally left as is, and the slide and needle connects to that ).

        This may cause fouling or choking of the main jet diffuser and other small openings in the bike. This can cause the sputtering and issues.

        Advise - Get the carb opened fully ( dismantled ), and cleaned from a good mechanic . Open everything, float, needle, idle screw etc. And if you can get your hands on a good carb cleaning spray like from 3M or Gulf, nothing like it.

        A former T-Bird owner with around 70,000 kms on it.
