  • Registration of a vehicle query

    Hi Guys,

I am planning to get a cbr 250r from a place that's around 60 kms from where I live. I have recently moved to tamilnadu from andhra pradesh and for obvious reasons , I have no proofs of residence that the RTO accepts. All that I have that proves I live in chennai is a tata photon bill, which I guess is of no use whatsoever. My problem is once I do get my bike, will i have a problem registering it here because of the lack of proofs. I don't have passport or voters card or ration card. I have a drivers license the address on which is my permanent at andhra pradesh. A friend of mine in the exact same situation purchased a bike and he got it registered by acquiring a HR letter from the company and then getting this notarized. This was under the same RTO that this zone falls under. I can also get the HR letter , but my question is, where do i have to get it notarized? and if i get it done here in Karapakkam, will it be a valid proof to get my bike registered at Kanchipuram? As that is where i will be getting the bike from? Or should I get the HR letter and get it notarized at Kanchipuram instead? I am currently lost. Kindly need some help in this regard. Thanks in advance.

AFFIDAVIT - heard about this term? This is all you need.
Get your address stamped through a notary public & all will be fine. Otherwise leave it to the dealer, they'll take of things, provided, you "take care" of them.

I had the same problem when i bought my P220 in Mysore. I am from Assam and studying here at Mysore (Karnataka). The showroom guy said to make affidavit and also took 500 bucks for it. Later next day, the called me saying affidavit is not valid coz i dont stay at college hostel ( i had already purchased the bike and continued riding without registration). Then they said i need to make LIC and demanded 1000 bucks for it. But i smelled something fishy and myself went to the RTO of mysore and explained everything. The RTO officer just saw the papers i had and said to go and kick the showroom guy! So, i did the registration myself with
1> principal attested residence certificate written in college letter head giving my permanent residence address and the present residence address.
you can give the same certificate written on your company letter head, signed by HR.
2> My PRC (permanent residence certificate, issued from the DC, guwahati, Assam). you can give anything that has your permanent address (like passport, LIC etc, but DL not accepted)
          3> 2 passport size photos!

The showroom guys make innumerous attempts to loot you in every possible way, being an outsider.
