  • Hero Honda hunk mileage issue

    hii,

recently after second service my mileage has gone down drastically to 37-40 Kmpl. previously I was getting 45-50 with mixed riding(pillion and without pillion) not above 80 kmph.

because of smoke issue and vibration they removed the carburetor and cleaned it. now vibes are less but mileage has been effected

    Kindly provide me with suggestion.

Check if your carb has been properly fitted & tuned after cleaning ( main suspect ). Check if they forgot to clean your air-filter ; or change the paper element . Also check if your chain has been cleaned & lubed and tensioned correctly . Plugs too .

        thanx pinaki da,

prblem was mi gear shifting. Actually while travelling through rajarhat Iwas changing gears at 6K-6.5K rpm. so that was the issue. today went to svc and took mileage test. it was 60 Kmpl with 2 riders and 50 kmph speed.

guy from the svc told me to chng gears at 3.5k to 4K rpm and then increase speed at top gear. upto 75 i will be getting 50 kmpl mileage but beyond that it will drop drastically.

        so, was my mistake

That 60kmpl with a mileage-test-bottle is not surprising . It doesn't take into account cheating petrol pumps , traffic signals , evaporation loss , riding habits and a whole lot of other real-time factors . Expect 40-45kmpl in average .

Ohh , that's great Aneesh !! needed to know that ....

@ papan - They have put up huge billboards in almost every pump ( IOC/HP/BPCL pumps ) in kolkata encouraging customer to ask for quality test and 5 liter quantity test anytime . Anyone actually done that ? What was the experience ?

Re: Hero Honda hunk mileage issue

                      Hi Guys,

I am riding HH Hunk 2008 model. bike has completed 45K. Mileage was dropped to 35-41 kmpl. 35 when ripped hard and 41 between 50-60kmph.
I mentioned my problem under ownership experience, where I got the suggestion to
                      1. replace valves
                      2. clean ports
                      3. re-tune carb.
                      4. replace air filter and spark plug
i did the same. now after 300kms i changed the engine oil and checked the mileage. its increased but for very less extent. now i am getting 36 when ripped hard and 42 when ride between 40 -60 kmph.

can you guys suggest what wrong with my bike? what further work needs to be done?
sprockets are worn out and battery is dead, does this impact mileage?
I kept these 2 works on hold. If i dont get ideal mileage, I am thinking to sell it and get some other bike with the same mileage where 35-40 mileage is worth. like ZMA, R15.

please let em know the probable cause of mileage drop down.

on2wheels, don't know if u have other issues or not but, definitely worn sprockets will lead to loss of efficiency in turn leading to drop in mileage. I would infact first replace the chain and sprocket before replacing valves.

nishibds, upto what extent worn sprockets can reduce the mileage? please let me know the figures.

on2wheels, it is very difficult to explain in figures upto what extent worn sprockets effect mileage.
on bad sprockets(also chain) , i think u can expect atleast 3 to 4 km drop. it depends on how loose the chain is binding to the sprockets. apart from mileage u will surely notice drop in pick up too. because the amount of energy engine is generating is not transferred efficiently to the wheels
