  • will my dream bike suits my height...?

Hi to all! this is my first thread since my joining, my query would be little diff. but its bothering me very much. let me start with my question, i have a long term dream of owning a sbk and am sure i will, its the one and only yamaha r1, currently i own rx135. the only thing which bothers me very much is my height, its 5'2"() will R1 suit for my height(dont think am crazy) i have read many posts of reducing seat height and all, but can it be done in our country b'coz height reducing kits are available in foreign countires only, correct me if am wrong. suggest me any idea but strictly not on changing the bike...lol.
All kind of comments are very much appreciated in advance...

at 5'4", I had the same doubts when I bought my bikes. I took a simple verification test by taking a test drive to feel comfortable. you can do the same and verify. There could be some difficulties initially, but you adapt to it. All the best for your new R1.

How can you be so sure for him? Are you of the same height? Or do you know anyone of the same height who also rides an R1?

I am around 5ft 4 - 5ft 5 inches in height and I have sat and ridden a couple of them briefly.

Let me tell you, even if someone of my height might tip-toe on a R1 or other SBK, he will never be comfortable and totally confident on it. At least not with normal shoes on.. I have not tried with Platforms/High heeled boots though.

            +1 to what you say.

I would like to add another point here, SBKs are damn heavy or they feel heavy due there CG distribution. One may be able to ride it perfectly on long stretches or at good speeds. But when it comes to actually controlling the bikes maneuverability at slow speed then the issue of height should be considered very seriously as it can be fatal.

So do onething if you can source someone's R1 just take a test ride, I am sure you will yourself be in a better position to decide then.

at 5.4 I am just on tip toes on the fz1,R1 as well as the fireblade

& yes it's a big concern on any bike if atleast your feet don't touch atleast 3/4th part of your feet's base on the ground

seat's of these bikes are already thin & maximum reduction you can get by ordering shaved seats in about 1/2 inch

lowering is the only option if you are 100% sure on buying the one only.

you have special links for suspension & overall it''s a very echie thing as you don't wanna mess with the bike's handling.

Afaik it cannot be done in India though you will find loads on info on lowering on foreign forums

                  Choose a Motorcycle That Fits...

                  Hi Arnie...

I came across this brilliant article on Motorcycle Reviews, Videos, Prices and Used Motorcycles a few days ago, and it speaks in detail about the topic you have questioned about.

                  Choose a Motorcycle That Fits

Though it might indicate that a Superbike isn't the bike for you, or maybe a Cruiser isn't the right fit for you.....it's a very practical read, and will certainly add to your knowledge as a biker, if not anything else.

Hope you get your dream bike at the earliest. All the best,

                  .....Simba

by trying to reduce height you will also reduce its ground clearence and your bike might scrape our huge speedbumps and craters on the roads . you can get them installed here but you will need to order those lowering kits from abroad . seat is already quite thin on the sbk's so cant shave off the seat foam also .
