  • FZ Engine rattling at high RPM

    Hello guys,
    Small help needed here.
My engine seems to rattle at higher RPM's(Beyond 6k) and at Full throttle. Its like shaking a can of spray paint!
Besides the sound i have no other problems and the power delivery is fine too.
Could it be loose tappets or something else?
Been using MOTUL W40 Semi Synth and currently on W50 of the same.

    UPDATE:
    Adding another issue too.
Ive had this problem of my engine switching off at times when i give a little bit of throttle from standstill.Never bothered much but lately it has increased. Its like the engine dies with a small burst from the exhaust and then it doesn't start immediately.i have to wait for few seconds and then start.
Now for the last 3-4 days when i cold start it switches off in few seconds and again,it takes some time to start again.in the last couple of days it took me around a minute to get the bike running.and this has happened AFTER i tightened the tappets! My mech said we will try cleaning the carb but at 16k Kms im a bit reluctant since i believe its too early for the carb to get dirty.

Even with these 2 issues bike runs well.No problem.
    Any ideas guys?

    Thank you

I had been facing the exact same issue .. changed the engine oil and got the tappet fixed.. and its was smooth again..

i suspect loose tappets... also get the engine mounts and bolts checked... i am not too sure about the engine oil as i have been using mineral oil since the begining

          cheers

Loose tappets could be the most probable issue. Engine mounts have less of a chance as your bike is barely a coupla years old. Is there any whining sound accompanying the rattling?

it can be loose tappets or crankshaft bearing noise, you need to differentiate betwen the two, also check the engine foundation bolts and tighten it if required. also check engine oil level.

Oil level is fine, its hardly 600km's old.
So looks like its the tappet itself!

Will,do.Thanks.Anyway tightening the tappets hasn't really helped. What else from the head could couse a rattling noise?

it could be the timing chaing guide.,but this happens for bikes of high mileage.
if it is broken slightly, it oscillates and that might be the cause of rattling noise at high rpm.so do check out what others have suggested

Since you've already checked the tappets .. do these in your presence ( don't leave it at the mercy of the mech ) ..
                          1) Disassemble , clean , refit & adjust the carburetor . Clean or replace airfilter .
                          2) check wheel bearings for play ( by yanking the wheel sidewise for any movement )
                          3) clean chain , sprockets and check alignment .

I doubt it's your engine , cause it's so young yet . Some noise is inevitable at high rpm & speeds , bikes are noisy devices .

Did you get the valve clearances checked ? that might also be an issue ... A friend of mine had the same kind of sound coming from his bike which was a CBZ-X , the problem was with the valve clearance ...
