  • Not sure if it is piston problem - need help

    Hello Friends,

I have pulsar 180 2005 model and it ran around 54000 kms so far, now its engine oil reduces after every 1000 kms and if we give full throttle it produces some smoke as well , as per mechanic it's piston is at fault and should be replaced , my query is:

    1) Is it really engine fault or any kind of leakage
    2) should I replace only piston or complete kit (cyln + pis)
    3) any degradation in performance after that ?

    Regards

You say the bike started emitting smoke. Smoke is emitted when there is a problem with the cylinder and piston kit when the oil starts entering the combustion chamber due to faulty piston rings. Get it checked. Also check the valves.
      2) should I replace only piston or complete kit (cyln + pis)
If a problem with the piston is detected get the whole set replaced. Use OEM parts for almost stock performance. Avoid re-boring the current cylinder. It will not last long. If the fitting job is done right your bike will run as good as new.
      3) any degradation in performance after that ?
None if you replace the whole set and get it installed by an experienced mechanic

54000 kms means it is pretty much end of the life of block piston.

if you want to sell the bike after say 1 year or so, you can do reboring with new piston, provided it is done from a good and reliable mechanic.

        otherwise, new block piston job.

but bike will never feel same as new.
