i have an 84 RD HT on its first sleeve and new pistons also runnin on points. The thin is when i am in town i always ride the bike regularly for about 15-20kms on a daily basis. And after one-two weeks of this continous ridin the bike starts gettin slow the engine starts gettin slower, hotter the gears a little harder etc etc. After a service everythin is back to normal. Now i dont mind servicin the bike regularly but doin it every 3 weeks is gettin a little riduculous. Any suggestions, advice is very very welcome at this point.

Well this is shout out to all Rd owners,

hey i had a 88 350 myself and faced the same problem after 2-3 weeks or even less my bike used to face ur same problems
i guess one the points always needs to be adjusted this can be solved with a good CDI
plus another problem is the rd carbs are old and dont always function properly i had a problem with one carb not functioning as well as the other so hence i had two different setting in the carbs to eqalize the flow of petrol
this and most important the state of condition of the two cylinders why dont u get them checked and ull get ur answer from there
btw i recieved my parcel from the states i ve had purchased 1st piston size US spec Rd350 cylinders and heads in great condition i will be posting pics soon anyone interested???

Ya thats true the points always need constant attention and even i have noticed that my carbs always end up a little rich sometimes. maybe i shud try different settings on my bike and also the condition of the cylinders.

you should drain the petrol from the carbs as much as possible when you leave the bike for some weeks.. just close the tap and ride her when you almost reach your home... then set the points regularly too.. truely, a feeler gauge can do wonders to an RD running on points..he heJawa 250 1970

wow... good to see many with similar problems!! i too face this problem. i always run to the mech when there is a marginal decrease in power. he does some timing and carb adjustments, and everything is fixed!!!
now after this frequent headache im gonna throw away my points and changing to cdi. when i get money i will be soon buying one!!Offering My entire life to theGOD of Speed......!!!!

guys who use CDI is there any advantage in terms of power, acceleration etc or is it just easier to maintain
@joe what model do u have and how often does this problem happen to you
@arun usually i ride the bike till it has only a few drops left in the tank. how easy it to set the points i have never tried it, can it be done at home.Last edited by wierd_san; 11-01-2008, 11:38 AM.

never tried Ron's digi cdi though. I believe a new set of Daichi points & condensor set is still a good bet if you have the skills/mech to set the points

Yea.. points can be set @ home if you have a "feeler gauge". But you need expertise.. im still trying to learn that from my mech
. i believe a couple of pegs of Vodka can turn things in my favour someday
..
The CB point gap should be set to 0.014" to 0.016" [0.35mm to 0.4mm] using a feeler gauge.

mine is the 86 model!! i often get this problem after riding it once a week!! when i start it after a 2-3weeks, then it starts misfiring, and agian back to the mech!! so planned to change to a good new cdi!!Offering My entire life to theGOD of Speed......!!!!

@arun guess i shud get myself a feeler gauge and start feelin around shudn I[and yes couple of shots of vodka will def help]. thanks on the info. meanwhile my bike is with my trusted mech.
@joe looks like u are havin the exact same problem as mine let me know if u change to cdi and how the results are.
