Scrapping noise from engine of Thunderbird
I got my new Royal Enfield Thunderbird Twinspark on 2 july 2011. While riding i found that from engine some scrapping sound is coming like Kharrr....Kharrr I took the bike to service center and they told me to mention the problem in first servicing. I showed the noise to a local mechanic and he told me it is the noise of Tappet. There are still 20 days for first servicing left and due to rains in mumbai i am rarely using my bike for commuting so this time first servicing is coming after 45 days of delivery. My concern is if i wait upto first service whatever that noise is coming will it not screw up my engine forever if there is a problem. People this is my first RE motorcycle previous 2 bikes were pulsar 150 classic and avenger 200 so i dont know how does a Tappet sound in RE.Tags: None

if their is a problem in your bike, you should not wait for free servicing, tell it to service center and get it rectified.
why your service center refused to rectify it. what was their opinion about it.
i suggest again go to service center, record all your discussion on mobile phone. insist them to take a look and rectify.
if they refuse try to contact their customer care or regional service manager.

I have avenger 220cc, not even two months old...have ridden 2400 KM's. All of a sudden started getting ticking noise while riding. Showed to the service center. They said I can continue to ride and said it's a loose tappet causing the noise, and asked me to come tomorrow to get it fixed. Is it fine if I continue riding with a loose tappet? Won't it affect the engine and performance?

too loose or too tight tappets are harmfull, get them checked and rectified instantly, why do you want to ride without correcting them. within city rides should not harm the engine, but if doing long runs or high speed runs, they will cause problems.
note: you should never hijack someone else's thread to discuss your problem, you could have started your own thread.Last edited by princesirohi; 07-27-2011, 05:47 AM.

Actually with a loose or too much tight tappet, your valves can bend in long run.Originally posted by I_Strum_Life View PostI have avenger 220cc, not even two months old...have ridden 2400 KM's. Hence correct tappet settings are required.
