It could be something as simple as some gunk or dirt partially clogging its inlet or (less probable but possible) sticky pump bearing. Centrifugal pumps are mighty sensitive to restricted flow (whether 'in' or 'out') as the fuel also functions as the bearing and pump coolant. These pumps generate an output pressure of about 46 psi, which requires considerable energy, meaning the motor works hard and could easily heat up.

From the little that I know of OF, I am pretty sure he may have done just that

But the specs for the pump etc are available off the workshop manual

I didn't want to scare you buddy; just be informed that prolonged exposure to high temperature near groin negatievly affects reproductivity.

Hey...i too ride an R6 08. Even yesterday i went for a spin and in the early morning it was fine...But while returning it was 13:00 hrs n as usual i too reached home with my inner thighs red. One of my friend who owns 1000 CBR 08 rode my R6 on saturday and he found it very light n manageable....specifically the heat too coming out from the sides was lesser than in his cbr...so ig uess this should answer ur query.

I too was initially thinking whether it was a problem with only my bike or some assembling problem...but feel its the same with all the sbks

Anyways if ur from mumbai then lets meetup at some place...i had ordered Black R6..but ultimately got red n white one though i love R6 in any colour..but wud like to see the black in flesh.

Ah... I overlooked the fact that an R6's manual would be leagues ahead than that of a 220, as it goes with the bikes too

make sure your thighs arn't wet for any reason heh cuz water is a good conductor of heat. Plus, the yamaha official manual suggests you to turn off engine when you still for a longer period, and it also suggests you to avoid "idle"ing as much as possible. Incase of emergency, your temp indicator starts blinking, and you immediately need to turn ur bike off then.
Wear jeans or leather materials which are bad conductors of heat.
To simply avoid the heat, simply avoid the traffic and bad roads, cuz these bikes are never meant for such conditions.

Finally, dont ever try to think that your superbike can take on the toughest terrains just because NICK SANDERS R1 did it. He had sponsors for his engine, but you dont and you never will.

Treat your superbike like a supermodel, you need to pamper her and take her out to her favorite places to keep her happy

I generally ride my bike during early morning starting at around 6am, otherwise later in the evening say around 10ish. Otherwise riding during the rush hours, i prefer sticking to my 4 wheels, or may be a bajaj platina or sumthing

I have 'courage' but keep it within the tight bounds of sanity. Take it apart yes, but who puts it back again!!

@rossiter: Just taken the drama out of those 'knowledgeable' statements
Yes, I have a pdf of the R1 shop manual. And met an avid R6 rider (Vikram, who raced professionally on a 'six in Dubai) during our Jaipur run-in ride. Both of us talked tech to our heart's content.

i think switchin off the motor at triffic lights is a good option...
but that would make your battery take a beating i guess...
anyone knows how long does the r1's battery last??
