  • Pulsar 150 - strange stalling problem

    Hi guys,

I noticed this strange problem last week. I parked my bike on side stand with engine running for few seconds and then straightened it to remove the side stand and engine stalled. I didnt pay much attention to this, but when I noticed this happening for 3 days in a row, its bothering me now. I checked up with local mechanic and thought carb is the suspect.. but it looks sparkling clean with no clogs anywhere.. fuel line too is looking clean. This happens both when engine is warm / blazing hot.

What might be the cause behind this strange behavior ? Fuel can be negated cause its shell super unleaded always for me and I do use fuel system cleaner every 1000 Kms.

@dpak89 : thats sad yaar. I have not experienced / noticed this in my other Pulsar 150 (classic).

very frustrating at the end of the day when I reach home after work.

well yea...being a 2stroker my first doubt was carb!! but then, this problem do arise only when the handle bar's position is changed when in neutral!! so i dont think carb may not be a cause!!

@princesirohi: fuel level doesn't matter in this situation. I have noticed this with 5 litres and just above reserve. The problem is with the bike's angle. Bike stays idling when on side stand, the moment I straighten it, it chokes. I removed the tank last weekend and poked the fuel line with a clean metal wire to remove any fuel gunk, nothing has helped me yet. Carb is spic and span.. no issues in that front. Not sure where exactly this effect comes from.

if it happens just by changing handle position, it may mean that your accelerator cable may be stuck somewhere, check to see that it should be free.

i am not saying that your carb is not clean, check for float and float pin proper functioning. if its ok, try to raise the idling RPM a little bit.

Then it should happen on every turn, and at all gears.
@Prith: by stalling do you mean the engine shuts off like when the ignition key is turned off or like when the engine shuts off if the fuel shift from main to reserve????

Yup. Exactly and bang right on. It just shuts down as if fuel is cut off. It keeps running if its on side stand, the moment you tilt the bike to straight position, stops.

i guess, even my problem is similar..

Though i have experienced a sea of difficulties.. My 180 UG4 stalls in the middle of the road and refuses to start..
It starts when its on the side stand, and stalls when i remove it from the side stand and put it vertical... And when i push the self start button in the vertical position, the bike refuses to start..

Haven't yet been able to know the cause of this.. Bike is still in the service station,,

@shanx: oops.. looks like this issue is more widespread than I thought before.
@princesrohi: I had a complete knockdown of my carb this saturday and checkd/rechecked everything in there. Couldn't find any issue.

I was wondering on one possibility though, is there a remote chance for fuel tank pressure to impress any change on carb ? Since straightening the bike causes fuel to splash around and cause change in vapor/liquid volume. Just pondering if there is a possibility.

It's not a regular problem with P150. Period.

Coming to the problem: Check the throttle cable. Happens when the cable is faulty or when it is having too much of bends.

                              Nope.. throttle is good enough.

                              Anything else to check.
