  • Apache RTR HyperEdge Mysterious Braking

Till day-before-yesterday everything was going great. Problem started from yesterterday when I took out the RTR for a ride to office. I felt the engine braking thing was gravely increased. I thought that tyre pressure was low. I visited a punture-wallah and got it checked and found it was ok. After that I ignored it. While returning in the night, it was much increased. I am not even sure if its engine braking or what.
Today morning, it crossed the limits. The engine braking thing increased so much that I have to rev to 5k on 3rd gear to reach a speed of 30kmph!!
Cant even hit 70 . This thing kinda lowers down when it goes into 5th gear.

    Model: Apache HyperEdge 160
    Bought on: Jan 3 2010
    Km done: 12,870kms
Average riding speed: 75+ kmph (Have a habit of travelling at a constant tripple digits on highways..except monsoons)
Servicing: Every 2700-3000kms with oil change. Recently did a engine cleaning upon recommendation from the service centre guys.

    Help Please!!

Its not Engine Braking, because engine braking only happens when you leave the throttle or ease it.
It may be that your bike's brake is jammed or the clutch plate is worn out.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

I sure don't think this has anything to do with engine braking, do check your fuel injection or it may be the brakes am not very sure just reading into it. I do hope the experts in the TVS showroom will rectify this. I hope for better posts from more expert members. Be sure this will be fixed, but the feeling that the bike is never the same as it used to be might carry forward, so fix that too when this is done just my own experience of things. Cheers

P.S: Just a request, don't post your vehicle reg numbers at any public forum even xbhp, it could be misused as it would even lead right to your home address. But its up to you, do what you feel is best.
Been obsessed with momentum ever since i was born, but 0 - 200kmph took 30yrs! This will do for now!

        Bajaj Pulsar 200

Basically you have to Rev more (in any gear) to achieve the same speeds you were acheiving earlier without those many revs.
Prima Facie it seems like the clutch plates are going to have to be replaced!

            @ utsavchs

Can be a bit more precise, if its engine braking or something else

for sure you will know if its a engine braking issue, coz the ENGINE will show clear signs of vibes. Like when you shift down from 5th gear to 2nd at 60Kmph.....

              That isn't engine braking man...

Did your mechanic open the engine up for decarb? If so then check if there's any smoke from the exhaust..
You sound like the engine is loosing compression.... Or may be the piston hasn't be plonked correctly!

Don't try to rip the bike... Check oil level and scan for smoke.

If the revs just don't build up then do check your clutch play and clutch plates!

                +1
engine braking doesnt happen when bike is reved some 5k rpm, it happens when you leave the throttle.. With a downshift or without.. Its definately something else.
