  • HID & Wax for Unicorn

    Hey guys,

i have been using Unicorn since 2009. it has clocked over 29k kms.
now i am very disappointed with the stock headlights.. i usually have to work till late & have to travel by highway.. my stock headlights do not suit the job!! i need to pimp my bike with some good HID's if not then, any other suggestions to improve the lighting in my bike..? i had read in some of the threads about coil rewinding & converting bike's power to full DC.. but could not find much information on it.. (as i have zilch knowledge about bike electrical stuff)..

i also need suggestion with selecting the bike's wax..
after going through many threads .. i have finally come to a conclusion about going for collinite 915.. but i have 1 query.. can i use it after my bike has been teflon coated...

require help guys... please do the need full..

DSG Nero is widely popular here. If you can afford, even Octane is good.

As for Collinite, I think you have already decided to get it (Your post in some other thread). Post some snaps with before and after of it

You need a rewind job on your stator and the mighty APE RR and you're good to go for even 55W HIDs

I recently converted my Unicorn to full DC hoping to get amazing results.
The reflector design of Unicorn is the real culprit. I am using 55/60 philips bulb and the low beam is very good, but coming to the highbeams the light spreads too much.
Use HID in Uni's reflector and be ready to face severe encounters.
Still stuck at what to do......

from where did you convert your Unicorn to full DC? & how much did it cost overall..?

i am planning to convert my bike to full DC & use OSRAM Night Breaker+ or Philips X treme Power bulb...

Well I am from a small place and couldn't find anyone who does the job as a package. The bike mechanics here are not even aware of anything like rewinding.
I removed my stator and visited almost 6 auto rewinding shops and everyone was reluctant to do the job fearing the outcome. Finally got one person who was ready to do the job but on condition that he cannot guarantee the outcome. I found APE coil in his shop which is similar to Uni's but with 12 or more poles. He completed rewinding and even sealed the entire coil with Araldite. So go to a person who rewinds APE auto's coil.

                        Costs Involved.
                        Rewinding job - 400
Labor charges for removing the coil, wiring etc - None (Did it all by myself)
APE RR Unit - 1300 (Although the MRP is ~900, the computer showed 1300 which I cross checked in two other cities.)
                        Gasket - 70

The rewinding job is really simple if you understand it.

                          thanks mate...
one more thing.. i am not sure whether my bike's electricals are AC or DC..? how do we identify that?

i had a talk with my friends mechanic & he said that my bike is DC.. just because when the bike is on(power on, engine off) i can use the pass light.. i am not justified though... so can anyone tell me how to know whether my bike is AC or DC?

                          i have a 2009 model Honda Unicorn... :P

^^^ Unicorn is AC .... Only the pass switch is routed from the battery... This is the reason you would not be able to use the low beam lights.... The head light also flickers due to the same reason ...
