  • engine oil overfilled!

Just the other day i decided to change the engine oil of my honda dio own my own. Actually, dio requires only about 800-900ml oil max. But by mistake, i have over filled the oil(1 lit)! The crankcase has been filled up to the brim, it almost spilled when i was inserting the oil cap(dipstick) back What will happen if i run my dio with over filled oil? Actually i rode it for just 20kms as it is, without any problems. What should i do now?

^^ actually i wanted to know what would happen if i run it as it is! Also, its a expensive oil(shell advance) so I don't want to waste it.

If that engine has a crankcase breather ... the excess oil will end up in your air-filter . Moreover oil seals are likely to go .. in bad places . Drain off the excess and keep in a bottle for top-ups later on . If paper air-filter is already wet with oil , gotta buy a new one .

Drain off the excess oil; its little tricky though as you can't measure accurate; I was being told that excess oil damages the engine oil pump.

Drain complete engine oil and then Refill same by mesuring correct amount..... simple..
Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

Buy a 10 or 20ml Syringe from the pharmacy, without needle...if the needle is attached ,remove it..now buy a foot length of plastic pipe from Hardware or fish ,and fish tank accessories sales people ,to suit the nipple on the syringe, and attach it to the syringe..Open the filler cap and insert the plastic tube into the oil and pull back on the syringe plunger . This will suck the oil into the syringe...do this till you get the 100 or 200ml oil out....now you have exact amount of oil in your crank case.
DO THIS WHEN ENGINE IS COLD.

1.5 meters of narrow pipe which you will find in Plumber/Hardware shop used by masons for checking level or Petrol pipe in auto stores.
                      An empty water bottle.
-make 2 holes in the cap.
                      -cut the pipe into half.
-insert the two pipes into the holes of the water bottle cap tightly.
-one pipe into engine oil sump. Other pipe into your mouth.
-suck with one pipe and the low pressure will suck the oil into the bottle.
sounds a bit crude but works great.
I use the same method to bleed my disc brakes also, I leave the sucking to vacuum cleaner.

First of all, thanks to all for helping me. i liked this idea...would be doing this today......already got the syringe...will get the plastic pipe today. Will use this oil for top - ups later on. Thanks 'psr sir' for this idea. (Actually before this i was thinking of dipping a painting brush & squeezing out some oil from filler cap....lol!)

@ pinaki sir - thanks for your info...i never knew that something like this could happen....i checked my paper air filter & luckily it wasn't wet as i have done only 25kms after oil change.

There is a saying that necessity is the mother of invention...In my car, I use this method to suck out both the Hydraulic clutch fluid, and the Hydraulic brake fluid ,and replace with fresh fluid, WITHOUT AIR GETTING INTO CIRCUIT..I drain from the top of canister and pour in adequate amount of new fluid..This I do once a year and keeps my system healthy.
