  • guyz help me...pulsar 150(2004 model) problems

    i have a pulsar 150(2004)......it was ma broz .....
he went abroad .....he gave it to me......
    i modified it by fitting.....mono shock.....and k&n filter.....
instead of welding mono to pulsar swingarm.....i fitted it with uni swingarm....
after that my rear tyre touched the mudguard so i changed the rear wheel to enticer's rim and 120 tyre(16").........
before alteration i got a mileage of 60...now varies from 36 to 49......
but the problem is its really hard to speed up 90 -100... ......the rev alwayz touches 9.....but acceleration and topspeed is too slow.....
i asked ma mechanic to tune it for power......after that i don feel much variation...but mileage has come down to 20......please help......guyz.......
mechanic said he will do jetting....for power .....but my mileage will again drop right???
what shall i do now????? help me guyz..............

First of all changing your rear from a default dual shock to a mono shock itself will considerably affect your performance if not done properly, and having decided to go for a mono-shock set-up you should have got one custom done for your Pulsar's frame/setup, of course a Uni's swingarm will cause problems, Uni's swingarm sit's higher than a Pulsar's because of the shock being mounted on the front, and so putting a Uni's swingarm naturally made your bike's swingarm go low fouling with the mud-guard. And Uni's rear is 18" and yours is also an 17", and you've made the biggest mistake of downsizing your rim and tyre size to 16" which would have affected your gear ratios because the gearbox in a Pulsar is set for a 17" only, this would have definitely buggered up your mileage, and for the same distance the number of rotations is more on a 16" wheel than on an 17". And widening your tyres will bring your mileage even down because of the weight, width and the rolling resistance

^^EL LOCO : That's a to the point answer, but just one change to ur reply. If he had a 2004 Pulsar, it would have been the 18" spokes wheel, which means with a 16" rear, the gearing would have got screwed big-time...

I had a slight doubt i think this is where i checked out the specs http://www.indiabike.com/roadtest/sh...2004/index.htm, anyways if the 2004 Pulsar has spoke wheels then it's 18", since in this test the Pulsar had alloys probably that's why it had 17" specified on the tech sheet

all the points mentioned by Chuck norris (diablo) are correct

                - downsizing rims with a less heavy tyre will result in a good initial pick up, because the wheels can spin much faster
-although enticer's tyre and rim arent meant for our bikes, the heavy tyre not only decreases performance but the amount of rubber in the tyre results in energy losses (

                how ?
                - notice that the tyre isnt in the same shape at the bottom, it bulges out due to deformation, and when you ride faster the tyre deforms <-> back to normal much faster which results in the tyre heating up which ultimately means energy lost

-the lack of top result results because of the downsizing of the rim, which affects the final drive ratio.

                possibile solutions.
                - Have your pulsar's swingarm modified to the VERY CRUDE MS PAINT diagram attached. If you need more details, notify.

this swingarm allows the monoshock to be mounted much more higher than the unicorn's with the slant angle. therefore the change of rims and sprocketing wouldn't be needed and you can continue with a 110 or 100 section tyre with the stock rim

                Cheers

The 04 pulsar dts i had 18inch spoke wheels.
reju, the wide rear tyre that too 16inch one, would load your engine a lot.
As Nikhil said, get it back to stock, that would be the best way to go.
Otoh, i know a lot of pulsars of the same year, running on enticer and avenger rims, doing ok.
How is the condition of your chain sprocket kit? Have you decarbed the engine recently?
Forget about jetting or perf tuning, get it back in basic good condition.

the main charm of the v1 is its 18 inch rims...
that rear setup of yours is the only cupprit...revert back to stock...if you want your proformance back...
or since youve already done so much...you could try out sprocketing....stock spocket's wont help in your bike...you will have to find custom made ones..i think someone here on xbhp makes them...

Richard, he already has poor acceleration.
If he goes for a smaller rear sprocket, say a 39t sprocket, to compensate for the 16inch tyre, the accleration would be pathetic.

Imho, Not much to be gained from fitting m0no on pulsar swingarm. Either you go back to stock or retain the mono and uni swingarm set up,i know lots of pulsars with uni mono n swingarm running fine. Not much gain except aesthetics though.

I'd rather you get aftermarket 18inch alloys for the pulsars(lightweight ones are available here in cochin, straight 6 spoke affair for around 4k) than going for 17inchers.
What Jet are you running with the K n filter?

Must be the reason for the anemic performance, try the 180 s main jet. 112.5.
