  • Harley Registration problem at Kolkata

Hi to all my biker friend.

I have bought one Harley Iron 883 (assembled in India) and got it temporary registered at Delhi and received it at Kolkata. This Bike was sold by Capital Harley of Delhi. Now I am unable to register the bike in Kolkata RTO and they are refusing to register the Bike as they don't have it in their database. I had talked with officer in charge at Beltala RTO, he is asking me to get permission from Transport Secretary of W.B. My temporary registration expire on 18 Sep 11 and I am help less. The dealer at Delhi is showing me cold face as well as Harley Davidson too.

Any advice / help will be very much appreciated.
    Regards.

I guess this is farce. Harley operations in India cannot happen without the blessing from Ministry of Road &Trans / Min of Commerce. Since this is knocked down version, assembling in India is duly notified and "Taxable" in Indian soil.

I feel bad to see a genuine owner going through hurdles because of senseless government function. File RTI if you feel this is leading nowhere.

                Personal opinion...

The Harley dealer and money are your best bet. You have every right to be angry at the dealer. The dealer has to register the bike for you. Drag him to kolkata, carry a fat wallet and go to the RTO with your bike to get the work done.

It also helps if you know someone from the police or rto itself.

Now I am continuously following up with Harley Diversion. Delhi dealer is not responding anymore, not even answering my call. A guy from Harley is in touch with me Hope he can solve the problem. It is look like I made a big mistake buying Harley Diversion from Delhi.

Have tried my best and told the agent and RTO guy that am ready to pay any amount to get it register. But RTO guy told that they need permission from Transport department to enter the My bike in my system as there is no dealer in Kolkata. And Harley Davidson dose not have State government approval for this bike. And Harley or his Dealer never told me this story before selling the bike. If Harley dose not sort out this I am thinking about filing complain in Consumer Court. I think I am totally messed up now.

I work in the imported car segment. If i sell a car to a customer i'm the one who goes and stands in front of the state transport dept and get the papers through and register the car for my customer. My customers screw me if i dont I get it registered in the promised time. In the mean while i've made "friends" at the STD office and the RTO office ofcourse with money which the customer shells out.

If the harley guy is involved that means the vehicle has not been approved for your state yet. You see for a vehicle to be sold in india the manufacturer has to get through all the ARAI and central govt nonsense but for the vehicle to run in a particular state, the manufacturer again has to submit his central govt clearance papers to the state transport dept and after the std approves the vehicle only then can you even think about registering it in your state. Why get state clearance when the central govt has already cleared the vehicle? Out dated laws & bureaucracy... i know how you feel ! The STD has to do nothing, just sign some authorisation papers for the vehicle to run in your state.. which could take atleast 2months, thats my best time anyway.

In the meanwhile you have to ask the dealer to give you a TC plate till they get your vehicles registered. If the guy isnt picking up your call, GO TO DELHI. RUIN HIS BUSINESS ! Dude you just spent lacs on a bike and this is no way to treat a customer. I will be kicked out of my work for not attending your call in the first place lol should join HD !

oh good you have been enlightened about that. I posted the same thing. Well you cant do nothing much now your bike CANNOT be registered as of yet.. So ask for a TC plate (the red one and also make sure its insurance is valid) and file a complaint if you wish to.
