  • Spray Clutch Assembly on CL 500

My year old CL 500 recently refused to start (electric and kickstart) one fine morning in between a Delhi-Bom run. It would emit this tinny, metallic sound whenever the kick starter would be used.

Thankfully this happened in Ahmedabad and I took it to the workshop of Sarabhai Motors at Ahmedabad. They said that the "Clutch spray" had to be replaced at a cost of 4k.

I know very little about bikes and paid the full amount. After reaching Bombay, the bike again refused to start. This time, the mechanic (Francis Workshop, Dadar) claims that the problem lies with the battery and that I will have to shell out for a new battery (3k approx)

I just want to know if these guys are simply ripping me off or if the two (battery and spray clutch) are completely un-connected matters?

Also, do batteries conk off after 13k?

Could happen. But wasnt the bike covered under warranty is what the question is. Engine issues shouldve been taken care of by the warranty.

I believe you mean sprag clutch. From my limited knowledge of bulls, i believe this part has been giving the electra and classic owners quite a headache. But 4k for replacement seems a lot even if it includes oil, packing and labour. Did you get to see the damaged parts?
        Isnt your bike under warranty?
I think you need to get a second opinion. Try catching hold of a xbhp bull rider from your area and discuss this.
When a mech sees a biker whose clueless bout his machine, all he can hear is kachhing and see is $$!
