  • New Electra (Twin Spark) 350cc OR New Standard (Twink Spark) 350cc

    To all bullet lovers,
I am planning to sell my old RE thunderbird (2004) and buy a new one. This time i want to go for the Old RE look,
New Electra (Twin Spark) 350cc OR New Standard (Twink Spark) 350cc

    I have a few questions ???

    1. Is it true that the crank built for standard is 2kgs extra compared to Electra and this makes STD more stable and a better on long run ?
    2. Std UCE doesnt have electric start of disc break, will it be a problem ?
    3. With Std UCE the engine is generally quite noisy, at times more than the engine exhaust note and its lesser with Electra ?
    4. The weight of both the bullets are 180kg then why is STD UCE considered to be more heavy and difficult to handle?
5.STD UCE gives less milage when compared to Electra ?

Reading the reivews and comments posted on web now i am really confused which one to go for,, please help

      1. No. It was true from some old model with the CI engine but the UCE engines on the STD, Electra, Thunderbird, classic 350 are EXACTLY the same.
      2. Depends on what you want.
3,4,5. The electra and STD are the same bike. The difference apart from electric start and disk brake is purely external. Mileage and handling should not vary.
      Keep the rubber side down.

1.Yes the Std do have the same extra weight crank as given in classic 500.
2.If you are used to electric start and disc breaks than it'll take some time to get habitual with it.
3.Both have the same engine(except heavy crank in STD,which will result in lesser vibration than electra and can easily do slow speeds without lugging as compared to electra.
4.I found both very easy to handle as i am habitual of handling my C5,which is heavier than both.
        5.Can't help you in this.

Std UCE and classic 500(not earlier lots) have heavy crank.

          Thanks Dennie and Nirmesh
Now will the extra weight crank be of any help on long run, will it bring changes in pickup or mileage ?
And is disc break going to make any difference to the drive, cos i have heard from a few of my freinds that it gives trouble during rainly days and most of them get disc break fit after the 1st or 2nd serivce.
Can you put some light on this?

            Std does have heavier crank

            Hi,

Std 350 UCE does have heavier crank. I own once since last 10 months. The information is confirmed by the dealer here in Pune.

About your question - Does heavy crank help -
I think yes, it does - the vibrations are lesser. Downside is - the pickup is slightly lower. I.e. compared to Electra UCE, std UCE does have lower pickup.

I am fine with this though because bullets anyway were not known for super fast pickups.

Mileage - Not sure @ Electra UCE, but my Std UCE gives me anything between 42 to 44 kmpl.

            Hope this helps....

            Cheers!

                You are welcome!

I do not have the disc brakes fitted. I find the drum brakes sufficient. I do not drive at speeds exceeding 80 anyways, so the stock brakes are fine with me!

                Cheers!

                    Hi Anand

I am planning to buy a RE, was keen on TBTS earlier but after the new version has come up with hike in price, I have given myself an option of Electra UCE TS and standard UCE TS. Since you own a Std 350 how is your experience with the bull? Do you recommend this bike over Electra? Please post your ownership experiences and troubles specific to STD 350.

                    Thanks in Advance.
