  • rx 135 rebore issues..

Hi, maybe this query is too lengthy, please bear with me!
For a past few weeks my bike rx 135(2004) had a weird noise in the engine like something loose bolt is rolling inside, which is loudly audible even in idling. yesterday i opened the head and the bore and found the piston rings are very lose, when i press the rings to the piston, on the other side i can see a gap between the piston rings and piston of about 2-3mm. I done rebore again, now its 1mm oversize, previously it had .75 on it. Only last year rebore work was done by a mechanic. But this time i done it by myself.. After the engine work, i made it to run for half an hour in idle.my bike runs without the loud noise, but i can hear a minute sound which is said due to connecting rod and it is normal. I found a small play at the smaller end of the connecting rod when i opened the engine. is it ok? Please suggest me how to maintain the engine in the run-in period. Thanks in advance...

The problems you have narrated is due to either running the engine with less or no oil or severe ripping with scant respect or proper oil flow for the engine...Either way you had ruined the bore and now that you have the last oversize do observe the running in period restriction of not going over 45 Kmph and ensuring adequate 2 T supply and availability..when you opened the engine you should have also checked the con rod Big end and small end bearing play and wear.
The crankshaft bearing should also be checked...all this means splitting the engine and doing the job with some good Mechanic's attention...and extra money. IF you don't want to open up the engine, the small end roller bearing may be changed and hope the noise goes away...just my thought.

You have not shared details on the piston part post rebore. Did you plonk 1mm piston kit after?

@psr- i had 2t oil always checked, my engine has problems since the day i brought it as new. All the previous re-bores are done within 4 years and done by mechanics. the bike hasn't clocked over 35000 kms. Okay, now again i filled the 2t tank and moreover i add some oil along with the petrol(told by a mechanic) and will run the bike under 45kmph for say a 1000kms and hope the problem doesn't shows up again. Now, as you said am running last oversize, what to do if again the bore gets ruined for some reasons, will I get a new 135 bore? When i asked in showroom i was told only rx-100 bore is available for 8000.rs.. is it possible to fit rx100 bore on rx135...?

You have come to the last oversize in just 35 K Kms ?..that is heavy wear,I think your oil pump is set for low output or had gone Kaput...To safe guard the engine, you may close the oil pump out put to engine, and start to Add 30ml 2 T oil PER LITER in the petrol tank from now onwards. This will protect your petrol tank from rusting ,and keep the engine healthy with enough lubrication.
Regarding last oversize wear, you can re sleeve the bore to stock and use the standard piston...though purists can tell you that this may not be the same as stock bore and piston...New standard size bore and Piston are hard to get.

RX135 bore is extinct. RX100 bore not compatible. One last suggestion. Try to get second hand std or 1st oversize bore from mech/market do re-bore if necessary and follow the procedure religiously to benefit.

Then i need to try searching for a new or used bore from now onwards.... i checked the oil pump. just a few months back i changed the oil seal of the pump and its working fine now....(and the bore am using now is ported, i think the problem is related to it) thanks for those quick replies...

Recently rebored my rx 135 2000 model 2nd time with a new piston of •5mm size. There is a throttling sound in it. Mechanic told it will be o.k after 1000km. Is it ok .please help how to reduce the sound.

Reboring is an art. The clearance should be set right at 30-38 microns. Even STD bore from the factory will have bore noise and it's inevitable.

As suggested run the bike, as the carbon settles, might mellow the noise.

Please use right amount of 2T oil since new rings rubbing on newly rebored cylinder will create heat. Nothing to worry but use 30-40ml 2T oil per litre of petrol. The bike will set in due course of time. While riding keep the speed varying to help rings bed in properly.
