  • HH HUNK Chain issue

    Hi,

I own the new HH HUNK (2011 model).... My bike has 7k in the ODO...

On my 3rd service, I got my chain cleaned (as instructed by the service engineer)... After that I started to get tak tak noise from the chain side at random times (not continuous)... I adjusted the chain slackness witha local mech.. Again I got the sound (Random again)... I took my bike to the same service center... He adjusted the chain slackness.... He told that it will happen with a newly cleaned chain... It happened again... Got the slackness fixed again... It continued for around 4 times....

Got frustrated and fought with service people... They kept my bike for 2 days... The issue was still there....

There is no particular manner the issue issue replicated.... its like random...

Any help on this???? Is chain sprocket the culprit????? Checked the chain link.... It seems to be fine....

    Regards,
    Navidh

I had HH Hunk in 2010. Congrats for a nice bike. I still miss my Hunk a lot.

Now the question is, is your mechanic completely removed the chain and cleaned it or he cleaned it by just opening the chain cover only?
If the mechanic had opened the chain completely, then please check if the rotational direction is same or not OR enquire if he had replaced the chain link with a new one. The mechanic should replace the chain link with a new one and the chain link should match the cain.

If the mechanic had only removed the chain cover, then again open the chain cover and fix it again.

Thats the reason at the time of servicing I stand still near the ramp till the end of the servicing. Who knows, the mechanic may miss a vital nut to tighten and you may face the consequence on highways at highspeed.
      Move on.........

Hi... Thanks for ur quick reply man.... I am not sure in which manner the service center mech cleaned the chain... But they removed the chain cover, inspected the links carefully and even replaced the chain link (in a doubt that it might be the culprit).... If the chain cover is the issue means the sound should be uniform right (like happening everytime)... But it is random... Can happen at high speed, low speed...

But the issue happens in one scenario almost 60%.... Drive in top gear at around 60... You have suddenly halt the bike... Hit the brakes... Reduce the gear to 2nd/3rd... Now the bike's speed is almost between 10 - 15... Now try to pull the bike at 2nd/3rd gear.... The bike pulls easily (without engine knocking) but I can hear the tak tak tak sound from the chain....

This too is not 100% reproducible but happens at 50% of the times.

Can you get any clues on these????

P.S - I had hard gear shifts and gear slipping issue (gear doesn't engage correctly and comes back to previous gear while up shifting.). It was fixed by the SVC people... After that no issue with that side... Is this related to the chain issue??? Clutch??? Gear engaging spring?? (I don't know the exact names)Not sure

then please check if the rotational direction is same or not

If they removed the chain completely and refitted and didn't install the chain as it was earlier(I mean direction) you can hear sounds...

I once removed the chain and cleaned it and fitted in reverse direction and faced the same problems, removed the chain and fixed it in opposite direction..the problem is gone..

the problem is that the front sprockets teeth are little bent forward and the solution is reverse the front sprocket or go for new front sprocket will cost Rs 50 only.
If replacing front sprocket go for unicorn front sprocket as hunk/cbz xtreme are very short geared.
              hunk/xtreme - 14/43 -3.071
              unicorn- 15/42 - 2.8
Although cbz/hunk are more powerful still they are short geared. Going for unicorn front sprocket will make the engine run relaxed and run at lesser rpm for corresponding speed.

That was very useful... I will check the above point and even urs too when i sit personally with the mech... Thanks a lot man....

Will changing the front sprocket to unicorn's affect pickup, mileage etc etc??? As my bike is under the warranty is it safe to go with a different part???

changing to 15 teeth front of Unicorn means lesser pickup than current, but topend increases, I am sure you will not love it.

In theory pick - up will decrease but actually it doesn't decrease by much as we know that cbz/hunk easily touches red-line even in fifth gear and first and second gear are also quite short.I have done it on my friends xtreme and will do it on my xtreme as soon as three services are over.
Nobody will know it as both sprockets look the same but presently you better rotate the sprocket so that the teeth faces the opposite direction.
                    stock - 14/43=3.071
                    modified- 15/43 = 2.86
you can go for 41 rear sprocket but sadly chain and rear sprocket are not available separately only front sprocket is available separately.
You can buy the front sprocket of unicorn and use it. keep the stock sprocket with you. If you are not satisfied then fit the stock sprocket reversed.
It is a matter of only Rs. 50. I am sure you will love it as the engine will get relaxed.
My friends extreme returns a mileage of 58-62 k pl constantly.

During service, HH ASC people do a thing called 'PUC Tuning'... They say that it is for mileage... That thing has already reduced my pick up... I weigh around 85kgs and I badly need some initial pick up...

Also I get a mileage between 40 - 45... ASC people say that it will improve with services...

So for mileage thing I can go with the new unicorn's sprocket

Thanks for ur technical advise guys

Seems to be that my issue is fixed

                        Friends,

I took my bike to the local mech... I asked him to check the chain direction and both the sprockets.... He took my bike for a ride... Came back... Opened the chain guard... And inspected it... There was a region with scratches... He confirmed that it's the spot from where the chain is kissing and hence the noise... He checked the wheel alignment... Made a few adjustments... Refitted the chain guard... Took the bike for a ride and told me that it Will be fine... He asked 30 bucks... I also warned him that i Will get back if the issue comes again... He confirmed that it Will be fine and i can come back anytime.... I have done around 30 kms today and it seems to be the noise has vanished... I ll wait for another week and check it again... I am not sure how this simple thing has been missed by the ASC people....

P.S - The guy worked at the HH ASC for 2 years and now he has started his own garage...

Thats an experienced mech. Keep in touch with him,Look,I told you that the chain might be rubbing against something.

Chain sprocket needs to be changed

                              Guys,

I went to the ASC for my 4th service... The service engineer told me that my issue has not been fixed... The local mech has done a small tweak in wheel/chain alignment (the small bolt positions on the end of the swing arm were uneven) which will make the tyre and chain sprocket get worn out very early... Also performance issues when the bike hits the zone of 70 - 80 (which I felt actually after the workaround fix)...

My service engineer told me that it is a bad tweak and he insisted on changing the chain sprocket... I have asked him to proceed with it...

Dammnnnn... Can't rely on local mechs easily
