  • Suggestion or help wanted regarding apache rtr 160 fi

    hi all,

i want to do upgrades minor or major depending on feasibility.
current list include tyres, spark plugs, headlight, ffe, air filter.

i searched the owners thread and xbhp but after few hours or searching and reading i was confused with all different opinions.

    currently bike is stock.
i am thinking of changing to r15's front tyre 90/80 x17with tube.
and for rear i am thinking of pulsar 150's mrf 100/90x18 tyre ?
i wanted to know if this is a good idea or not ? if not please recommend me a good option for front and rear tyre.

next want to switch spark plug to ngk iridium.is this good ?

air filter to k&n from stock is this is a good idea or not ?

motor oil changed to valvoline 20w40 as could not get motul 5w40 oil anywhere here in ahmedabad. also tried castrol but after few highway runs engine feels tight also gear shifts are tight with castrol active20w40.
is the current oil best ?or can i go for another for my bike ?i can get motul 10w50 but is this good or bad as grade doesnt match in manual ?

headlight i am currently stock only but it has poor visibility at night when any oncoming vehicle is coming i am totally blind. last trip in early morning to nal sarovar i faced so much problem due to this lights i want to change them now. should i go fro 55/60w currently used in my car hyundai i20 ?is it a direct fit ?or should i go for one option which i was given at shapur (local market) it has one low beam halogen 55w and another high beam hid 6000 something. but i didnt know which one to go for so please help me.

next should i change my exhaust or not ? i love the sould currently it makes ?i dont know any thing in this feild as i didnt get to know anything. they all say free flow exhaust only. and brands also i dont heard any name which i was shown.

Note: my is rtr 160 fi so wanted to know is ffe and air filter will affect my bike in any way ?

    alloys help & suspension help

hi currently i have apache rtr 160 fi

i had a little minor problem due to bad roads here in ahmedabad my alloys have bend. what can i do now ?should i change alloys or use them as it is ?
tyres will be worn in 3 to 6 months so will be replacing them also this time with tube less so wanted to know opinion on it ?

next problem is that i dont feel good now a days while drivingwith speeds above 10kmph.
sometimes the front doesnt dive at all or dives completely till i feel like i hit my alloys. i dont know what is the problem i complained lot of times but this problem is not fixed . front fork distions(something like that) have been changed (said new part has come so upgraded)

i replaced the coneset but still problem is there. back suspension does not do anything like that just the front . can someone help me out ?

For the tyres i would recommend sticking to stock sizes of almost same compund if u dont want any performance losses....the front has to be 90-90-17 mrf zapper fs (1680rs) and the rear u have 2 options 100/90-18(mrf zapper c) and 110/90-18 (mrf zapper q) i would recommend the zappers cos they are very much affordable and will give u decent frip(a lot more than tvs)....my personal fav is 110/90-18 zapper q as my frend uses it in his fi (and regarding performance he has touched 131 on the same)

next want to switch spark plug to ngk iridium.is this good ?

Its totally up to u but i would say its just a waste of money as it just gives a lil better spark but a longer life.....(i didnt find it useful after using it 3k kms)

air filter to k&n from stock is this is a good idea or not ?

From my side a big no no to k&N .....i got my bike's engine valves burnt due to k&n as i was runing lean and coudnt do upjetting.....still as ur's is a Fi the k&n will make ur bike run very lean and to compensate the fuel u will have to disturb the ecu thing and tht is not possible until u have a very skilled mechanic who has been doin all this with FUEL INJECTED bike not carburetted ones......(my personal recommendation is a big no no as it only gives a crispier throttle and sound which the fi already has)

motor oil changed to valvoline 20w40 as could not get motul 5w40 oil anywhere here in ahmedabad. also tried castrol but after few highway runs engine feels tight also gear shifts are tight with castrol active20w40.

Get motul 300v 10w40 if u want a rev peepy still fully synthetic oil or there are many options in the market for ss oils such as shell, mobil 1, veedol, petronas, Agip, etc use any of the above with the XXw40 grade

headlight i am currently stock only but it has poor visibility at night when any oncoming vehicle is coming i am totally blind. last trip in early morning to nal sarovar i faced so much problem due to this lights i want to change them now. should i go fro 55/60w currently used in my car hyundai i20 ?is it a direct fit ?or should i go for one option which i was given at shapur (local market) it has one low beam halogen 55w and another high beam hid 6000 something. but i didnt know which one to go for so please help me.

theres nothing as best lightinig as people have even got 2 hid's runin on their bike at the same time but its all done with much efforts if u want a decent but still powerful headlight then get a hid with projector many chinese projectors are available in the market they even have a halo ring (colour of ur choice) get it installed but yes first of all check the desi bike's section for the coil rewinding and rr change dc setup of apache so tht ur bike runs on full dc and hid shldnt be a problem for the battery to handle

next should i change my exhaust or not ? i love the sould currently it makes ?i dont know any thing in this feild as i didnt get to know anything. they all say free flow exhaust only. and brands also i dont heard any name which i was shown.

For exhaust the best one is the joel's free flow exhaust it doesnt only change the sound but gives a power boost of atleast 10% even on a stock engine....so visit www.raceconcepts.in for the full details or check the pit stop general discussion section for all the upgrades available from joel they are a bit costly but VFM.....i have the big bore kit installed currently on my rtr 180 noe it is rtr 190 so ur rtr 160 can be rtr 170....and the power increase is awsome.....

Note: my is rtr 160 fi so wanted to know is ffe and air filter will affect my bike in any way ?

you wont need the sparkplug or the knn air filter if you just get the ffe from joel,

for tires try posting in the rtr ownership thread

                  1. 10W50 grade oils are for colder climates, definitely not for ahmedabad. Stick to 20W40 or 15W50

                  2. Go for Osram Nighbreaker Headlamp bulbs. they are the best.
