  • Bike clear coats

    Hi,

I have been trying by hands on repainting my bike the DIY route. So to test i spray painted the front fender. Though the result was satisfying but i noticed that the clear coat is pretty soft and not as tough as what the company does.

I used Kobe Acrylic spray paint can - black and clear coat. did 4 coats of black and 3 coats of clear.

I have also read from the net that the clearcoat will wear out just in case petrol drops on it. Since i planning to paint the tank also i wanted to know from where i can get a clear coat that is tough and does not wear out soon.

I live in Delhi. Can i get it here or do i have to go to the paint shop to get the job done.

I suggest its better you take it to a shop-they will rub&even the surface, then mix the clear (lacquer) with required amount of thinner&water.
I don't think they spray more than 2 coats of clear anyway-both my bikes have been clearcoated by a local painter&are holding up pretty good. Though the coat does get thinner over time, it still offers surface level protection from sun etc.&the bikes shine a lot more than normal bikes!

what if we mix little amount of color
        example
if the paint if black n during clear coat
he mixed little amount of purple paint (just few drops) and then he sprays
what kind of color might be expected ?

I don't think this will chage the color.
I think the reverse process may yield better results, i.e., mixing clear with the paint!
I actually leave it to my painter-I don't scrutinize his mixing, but I am more or less sure I have seen him spray the paint first&clear separately later.

the process is he lays the paint coat n then the clear

so there is no way of getting that little amount of shade of the color which we add in clear ?
