  • Very Low Mileage on my FZ16

    Hi Guys,

I have a three year old FZ16 which has done only 20,000 km on odo. At a driving speed of 60-70km/h on a highway my bike is just giving me a average of 35kmpl. I don't over rev engine, change gears at right rpm and do take care of my bike by doing service at regular intervals.Even the guys at yamaha service were not of any help. It's a matter of concern for me becasue I've read many user reviews online and the bike gives a decent average of anything between 40-50kmpl. Any advice or suggestions in this regard will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance.

Brother can u please elaborate more on the issue. Like what all mods are there or any other problem u are facing.

      Did u upgrade the tyre...??

Did anyone mess with ur AFR mixture?? plzz take a pic of the the spark plug and post it.

Are ur tyres fit i.e they should not leak and pressure shld be kept at the given values

Is there any kind of somke from the silencer..??

Many factors are there so plzz elaborate more on the issue.

Well, my friends Fz16 too give around 35-40km pl. Its false that you will attain 50kmpl. To achieve that mileage you need to maintain your bike in good condition from the very beginning i.e change mineral oil at every 1500km. Get your spark plug, air filter, exhaust, battery checked at regular interval and ride bike in optimal gear shifts and speed. Which if you had followed in first 2000km it would have given your bike better mileage.
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

          Low Mileage on FZ16

          Thanks Guys,

Well Utkarsh no Mods of any kind, Yes the Tyre which I currently have is 120/80 zapper which is there on P180 and 220. Apart from that no other modifications to engine. I keep a tab on the air pressure twice a week.No smoke from the silencer. And my spark plug appears brown in colour no oil deposits or grey powder like substance so I guess looking at the spark plug I think the carb is tuned properly.

          Thanks.

Ask your SVC to tune it for mileage and check you tire pressure regularly

when was the last time you changed the air-filter?

The key to good mileage is sticking to the basics and riding normally... not too fast... not too mileage consciously and generally staying in the correct gear... try to avoid riding in too high a gear as it will lead to unnecessary fuel wastage

Re: Very Low Mileage on my FZ16

HI guys, I have a pre owned FZ of 2010 when i bought it it was giving me 28 kmpl. After Servicing along with changing air filter oil filter diaphragme it was giving me 33kmpl. After that i visited Puttur (south Canara) Yamaha Showroom and met Mr Tushar. He checked the bike and advised to change the Spiller. As per his advise i asked them to change it. Then we took a test. Testing kit had not properly fixed hence there was a leakage, though i got 36 kmpl for 100ml. I wanted to check actual mileage so i put 1ltr and tested its giving me 43+. Hence iam happy with the mileage its giving. Thanks to Tushar of Puttur Yamaha Service Centre.

Mileage can never be determined by riding and check with just one litre petrol. It depends on many factors like riding style, speed and gear change patterns. Ride in 50-55km/h range and you will always get close to 40km/l in per 2011 models.
Good that the mileage increased after the service. But check the mileage with 2-3 tank fulls (reserve this reserve method) and ride the way you always do and then see what mileage you get.

And post in fz-16/fz-s ownership thread. More member will be able to see the post.

                    Ride safe and have fun.
                    Regards

My fzs is giving a pathetic 22kmpl right now.earlier it used to be 35! My fzs is a 2012 model which has done 21k.everything started after a spark plug change and it's a company recommended spark plug.now the svc are unable to solve it.they say problem is not with the plug.

Simple. Get the Carb cleaned by completely opening it. Also get the diapharm changed. It should definately fix it
