  • Engine knocking R15 v2.0

Guys i know R15 is not so powerful like other commuters in low end but it really rocks at mid and high end ! My bike is v2.0 and I'm afraid that my bike is suffering from some unusual problem !! it struggles a little in doubles while i shift up to 2nd gear from 1st gear !! Please help me in sorting out this problem !!! And also there is a screeching noise from the rear disc while i brake I've heard this sound from my friends hunk also ! What is the cause for this problem ?

    Vehicle profile :

    Make : Yamaha R15 v2.0 (2011)
    ODO reading : 600 kms
first service yet to be done ! ! !

I think your shifting to 2nd gear lil early . When ever you ride with pillion try to shift up @ 5-6k . And for screeching noise - Go to SVC and ask them to clean Disk pads and disk
Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

Dinesh'Jee , what fuel are you using now ? Fill fuel tank with IOCL Xtra-premium or BPCL speed / speed 97 petrol from a known reliable pump and tell us if the knocking problem persists .
For noisy brakes go to yamaha service and have the brake cleaned & serviced .

What knocking problem? You have not clearly mentioned whether the knocking occurs when you give accelerator while in neutral gear? If not then you need to change your riding style.

I used to refill at Bharath or Indian bunks !! The problem is only @ 2nd gear . As its new i was advised to shift up swiftly and to maintain my rpm below 5 for first 500kms. So i used to shift up to 2nd gear at around 3 or so . i din accelerate much while shifting up. I found the problem vanishing when i shift up after a good acceleration to rpm 5 & above ! This is my problem ! It persists even when it is driven without a pillion rider ! Should i shift it above 5 always ???

To mention clearly it is a sound that you can hear from your engine when you try to drive your bike at low speed like 20 or 30 kms/hr in 5th gear & above ! Your engine ll be struggling and vibrating to pull the load ! This is what i hear when i shift up to second gear at rpm 3 ! And i don hear it in neutral .

So, it is your riding style which is BAD. Yes, 20-30kmph in 5th gear is surely a killing. Use required gears at speeds.

Its neither the fuel nor the bike at fault. You need to adapt to a different riding style with this bike. You are actually lugging the engine by shifting at <=3k rpm with a pillion on board. Move your shift points slightly higher to around 5k and all will be good. Regarding the brakes, just get hold of a good brake cleaner and you will be at peace.
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

Above advice is for real knocking issues. But see below for his issue:

Your bike is fine..just get used to the gearing and engine characteristics

Yes , don't lug the engine like that . Shift at correct RPM & speeds to the correct gear .

Dinesh'jee , I'd still suggest you try IOCL XtraPremium petrol . Your bike's engine has high compression (10.4:1) and will make good use of the higher octane fuels . Lower octane / adulterated fuel will tend to knock in that engine . XtraPremium will clean out carbon deposits , if any, too .
