  • HELP:Vibrations in RTR 160

    Hi,
I recently bought Black RTR...Bike is nice. The only problem i m facing is that there is huge vibrations in bike after i cross 60Kmph. I m done with 1000km running and first free service is done.
Please suggest a solution for this.

I have ridden both the Apache 150 and the Apache RTR 160. Engine Vibrations are characteristic to the Apache Engine.. starts from around 55-60. But the engine feels peppy in spite of the vibrations.

Ride another Apache RTR 160 and compare if the vibrations on your bike is more than necessary.

OT: I actually loved the Apache 150's vibes, the solid grunt that engine has....AWESOME. Till date, it the most fun to ride bike (barring 2-st's) in the city for me atleast!

^^+1...A150 is one heck of a machine which has that "something" which even the RTR lacks and just forget about other bikes!!

            @tauruspuneet

Just ask the svc guys to check/tighten the rubber inserts on the engine and other mountings(footpegs, tank etc.)That could help solve the problem to some extent but you would be lucky if gets totally eliminated. Also engine oil level and quality of fuel do play a role in vibrations but as your bike is new then the 1st step would be a probable solution!!

vibrations are the charateristic of RTR"s engine....................
the sound that comes with it,and then tacho goin skywards are the trics it's engine plays...........
you'll get them the most at around 5000-6500RPM........

not to worry and ignore em,as post that rpm range you'll be gettin the pull which will make you smile till the magic 12000 RPM.......

MAn it's the most "puttin the smile on the face" engine i came across...............

Ur RTR exp r limited to Jam's bike. His bike is a vibrator on 2 wheels. It vibrates more than it should.

Forget about the vibes of the Apache engine... it is a characteristic of the bike.

Hope TVS officials see this thread and find so many 'happy' customers due TVS's technical 'Blunder' ..

My Avy too vibs like a massager(powered by an IC engine) beneath the seat , anyone liking that can exchange their bikes with mine ..

I am missing the fun for past a week since I got the bike serviced and got the chain properly adjusted, vibs have been reduced greatly.

Change of engine oil also helped. I switched to castrol activ extra 20w50 from motul 300v.

My Fiero also feeled the same.after 55kmph ,the bike starts vibrating ,but NOT as you people seems to feel though.

Only think expect can be the change of Engine Oil ,Some extra rubber mountings(if possible).Else ,you need to believe it is the part and parcel of APache engine.

The vibrations are due to the following reasons,
                              1. Being a short stroke engine
                              2. Short gearing. The RTR is the shortest geared bike and hence even at lesser speeds, the engine rpm is high. The engine spins at 83rpm for every 1kmph. As opposed to 75-77 of most other bikes.
                              3. The grunt produced by the engine, courtesy the ports is higher near the peak torque. Hence u experience the most vibes around 5000-6000rpm.

The RTR is never a bike that will be as smooth as a Zma. A short stroke engine is never super linear. An R15 feels butter smooth coz of its stroking factor, but higher up, it begs for mercy. Also its not even meant to be ridden as a commuter at 60kmph. It was always meant to be threashed and kept at peak revs. You'll enjoy it more than riding it like a 100cc bike at 4000rpm.
The older apache was also short geared. You dont experience vibes on the Fiero coz it has a taller gearing as opposed to the RTR/A150 although the engine is ideally the same.
i have run a taller gearing set-up on my RTR in a modified set-up. It was still faster than a Group D spec RTR and yet smooth. I'm talking about a set-up with a freeflow and full works.
This IS the character of a short stroke engine.
