  • Yamaha R15 1.0(2010) rear disc brake issue

Hi guyzz.. I m facing a strange issue with rear brake of my R15 rear disc brake.. It works perfectly fine when I start riding the bike but after 15-20 minutes of ride it suddenly stops functioning .. The brake paddle goes to the bottom if pressed... and again after 2-3 minutes of halt it comes back to normal...

showed the bike at the showroom(m.p motors , Pune) they say no issues with brake... please help me if you have any idea on this..

    Thanks...

Tell them to check the whole rear brake assembly such as the rear brake cylinder, linings, calipers and the pads.
Check the oil level of the rear cylinder.
This maybe mainly due to leakage from the brake lines.
Or get it checked, serviced at a different service centre.

            @vkavadia..
dude bike has completed 10500km.. Brake pads are relatively new around ~350 odd kms.. n even service guyz say they r in good shape.. I generally keep my foot below or beside the rear brake.. n use both brakes to stop... n brake gets heated up as there is hell lot of traffic on hinjewadi rd in pune @ morning n eve tym..

Can't be sure but maybe the pistons have dirt stuck in them which isn't allowing them to retract fully.. So the brake pads are constantly pressing against the disk (they are in contact with the disk normally too but in this case they'll be exerting some force)

Eventually the pads overheat and fade out and won't function as required..

I had the same issue before.... and i don't have much knowledge about the bikes and i got help from many people...

Try to get the brake bleeded for once and check the brake oil level...

If you see it low then fill it up with DOT3 ... i use Motul Dot4

                check the brake pad

If you have recently done Teflon coating then it is normal the service center person will also apply it on the disk and the pad slips from the disk.

In rare case there is screw on the rear end of the brake peddle that might be very loose or the threading might be gone.
you will get the screw for 30 RS it looks very good and is used to adjust the brake intensity check that.

i mainly thing is bleeding the brakes will fix it... because there might be air bubbles in the rear brake that is the reason...

I have very less knowledge about bikes and the above statements are the problem that i faced.....

Hi there this is Atul Kumar from Lucknow, I went on a ride to Haridwar to Nainital and returning to Lucknow. While coming from Nainital on the downhill with my pillion I used lots of rear brake and I felt that TTE my rear brakes are getting loose due to overheat and my disc also getting red hot and in the midway during downhill my real break made a noise like and it stopped working. In panic I stopped with my front brake and thought that something broke down it was evening also so I was searching for something that was broke down and by going some distance back but but I got nothing on the road. My real break was fully going down without breaking but after 10 to 15 kilometre it became normal and functional. So I understood that it was because of the overheating of the disc and the breaking system of the rear. But I could not understand that from where that noise came. and now after one and half years from that incident I never face that problem again in my real break. So it is confirmed that it was due to overheat only. I think the overheating pads might cause the brake fluid to get heated and increase pressure inside the chamber caused that, something valve might be working to release the pressure which caused that noise. So yeah that's it. Might this help you with your question.
