    • Final Rectifier

Final rectifier tested for 20mins and there was no heat in any parts. 13.xx was the charging voltage i was getting.

      • I was going good till the 9 or 10 pages....from there on...everything went bouncers too me.

What ever, Nice work guyz. Though I dint understand anything.

I have my Xtreme, and Had R15...R15 has best lighting after P220. So was used to it. swtich to Xtreme from R15 has made me difficult with the light beams. . So I am thinking of following options.

        Option 1: 35W HID with a Rectifier.
With a simple conversion from AC-DC with a Rectifier, Can a HID be used without any other electrical mods. I guess we even need a fuse in between, or will Ballast do that work? And where can be the recitifer be placed? I am not sure about the wiring on Xtreme, But must be same as on Unicorn. I have plans for 4300K 35W HID kit. Still in plans though.

Option 2: Coil Rewinding and 60/55W bulb.
I feel this as little complext, Because I dont want to fiddle with internals of my bike. And another reason, May not find good electrical mechanic who has good knowledge on bike electricals to get the winding things done.

I've read in LET THERE BE LIGHT thread that ZMA runs on DC lower to 3000RM and Alternator from there on. Is is similar on Xtreme???

        • WHA?
An AC DC combined system??? Highly unlikely.
You can go with the extra charger setup.Coil rewinds are not that reliable.
The additional charger mechanism also may be unreliable unless you think of some way to waterproof the circuit.I had done that mod prior to the monsoons. It ran just fine until one fine day I took my bike to get washed. Water entered, burned down the circuit....
If only I had paid more attention to waterproofing.
Check out the Pulsar150 classic converted to all DC and Relays and DC headlights threads. You'll get all the information you'll need.

If still you have questions, PM Rahuldevnath or abhijeet080808. I'm sure they'll surely be able to help you out.

            Go with option 1.

And what is being meant is that below 3k rpm, alternator can not charge the battery properly, so battery runs all the electricals and hence is being discharged instead of being charged. So, it runs basically on battery.

Above 3k rpm, the alternator generates sufficient charge to run all the electricals and also to charge the battery. So, it runs on alternator.

              • Status...

After converting the bike to DC with 55/60w Osram Nightbreaker.

Today i have fixed amp-meter to my Unicorn (pictures will be uploaded soon).
As per AMMETER the battery remains in neutral state (no charge, no discharge) when the rpm is at around 4000 when in low beam AND around 5000 when in high beam. If the bike is above the specified rpm's then there is no worry about adding additional charger or any coil rewinding.

So people who travel more in highways need not bother about any rewinding / charging issues even with 55/60w.

I very well know that this already known fact but wanted to know the exact rpm figures when the battery is getting charge.

                THE SETUP

In IDLING.. No Lights.. No charge no discharge status..

                Without headlight @ 2000rpm

                Without headlight @ 4000rpm

In Idling.. With Low Beam i.e 55w..

In Idling.. With High Beam i.e 60w..

With Low Beam i.e 55w @ 4200rpm.. No charge no discharge status..

With High Beam i.e 60w @ 4600rpm.. No charge no discharge status..

                • How much did that ammeter cost? And how is it connected? as in the ckt diag? I wanna get it for my bike to check out things.

                      Great work...

And yeah put a voltmeter on the right side... will look cool!

Hi Rahul, this is Sajan, you can use a 35A Bridge rectifier instead of using 4nos of 6A diodes and the benefit is you can directly bolt the diode to the heatsink as its having a hole in the centre.

Am also into thie DC conv mod but yet to accomplish, mine is Pulsar and your mod wont help me as it gives good strain to the engine. Got some tips from Abhi which is pending. SHall update later.

Yes, we can use it. I had made a custom one, because it also housed a relay for switching to battery once the bike is started.

I don't get the idea about strain on engine??? How is that ?

He says his rpm falls in half while using a custom RR unit. I too am confused!
