just back from my bike ride to valparai, actually went till athirapally falls in kerala!! about 1200 km in 4 days!

and to say the least about my brakes i abused them through most of the ride! mainly because i was riding through ghat sections and i had to break really really hard during downhill! and as you guys suggested i used the front ones as primary and back ones as secondary!!!

and now that i am back home after all the riding, the brakes are still doing ok!! earlier this much distance and braking would have destroyed my brakes!! HAD to go for the new ones!!!

Thanks a lot everyone, whoever posted here gave your suggestions!! it did solve my problem

dont use too much of brakes specially while going downhill, it may cause your brakes to overheat and overheating brakes means brake failure though temperory, but highly dangerous (personally experienced)
so also try to use engine braking.
There's few threads going in xbhp itself.

Yea Bro, there is another way of braking. And its good method when goin steep down hill..!

When on steep down hill, riding in 3rd or 4th gear, drop down into 2nd or 1st. The engine will automatically slow down the vehicle.

This is very use full when you suddenly seen a hump on the road, when there is no time to brake hard.

And in case when both brakes are failed while going on high speeds engine braking will slow you down.

try to rev match while you down shift. Helps in smoother downshifts without wheel lock.
Search the term 'rev matching' in xbhp, Google & YouTube. Its also been discussed in the engine braking thread.
