  • Fully synthetic on first service

    When I was looking through the threads I saw that we need to wait 4000 or 6000 kms before putting FS on new motorcycles but when I gave my R15 for the first service they put FS at 800km. I believe that I can't change it back to mineral or SS now. Is this bad for the bike? Will this cause a problem later?

      @KLM

      Buddy you better wait and complete ur runnin and use mineral oil till 10,000kms so that engine sets and proper wear and tear occurs.After that you can shift to Fully synthetic oil.I suggest you first shift to semi synthetic and then to fully.

      P.S:

      Present oil wont cause any harm.It will only prolong ur wear and tear procedure.Nothing to worry.

        If you use FS so early, then you have to run-in for longer period of time may be 10k instead of 2k.
        Btw, what oil it is.. I mean name?

          Read your R15 owners manual , what does it say about oil ? As far as I can recall yamaha specifies Semi-Synthetic/Synthetic Yamalube for that bike and it comes filled with with the same from factory too .

            @Honda_CBF
            On the 1st service bill it says they used full synthetic motor oil 15W50

            @Pinaki
            manual says SAE 20W-40 or SAE 20W-50

            Does this mean i have to keep the bike below 6k rpm till 10k kms?

              Read somewhere that using FS oil early in R15 is normal and wont cause any problems.Not sure though Post this query at R15 Ownership Thread.

                  There won't be any problem or issues if FS oils is used early.
                  The only thing it will cause is prolong engine run-in period.
                  When engines are runned-in with mineral oils one must not rev high (usually 4k rpm on most Indian bikes) but i dont know anyone (including me) who runned-in with synthetic oil so i really can't comment on that.
                  So, be sure there won't be any problem with FS, Period.

                    i used FS from my 2nd service( 5k) for my RTR EFI 160...total km 40k+..no issues from my side...actually it saved my engine recently from leagake in inlet valve...if i had used normal oil my would have been ceased...

                        yes you can, but dont.
                        Wait till your odo reads 8,000-10,000kms.
                        Till then you can enjoy with the semi-synthetic oils.
                        Btw, how old your bike is in terms of kilometers?

                            what's your idle rpm?? It should be 1400-1500 rpm when engine is warm/hot and 1100-1200 rpm when cool. Check it out.
                            Wanna know, since when you having this problem? Are you facing it after any alteration made to the bike for instance say, carb tuning or clutch setting or anything?
