  • Serious Issues! Expert advice needed Urgently

Hi guys, this is my 2nd post regarding my pulsar 135LS and its never ending troubles. It is just 8 months old and has already clocked 22K Kms.
I am fed up running about all the mechanics here in Kolkata and trying out whatever they say. The SVC guys out here are jerks. They just take up the money and clean the bikes as they dont work infront of the customers.
    Some basic updates are:

Installed FFE and K&N filter (without upjetting) since 6K kms.
Changed Clutch Plates 500 Kms back
Spark Plugs changed to stock new (BOSCH)
Running on Castrol GTX 20W50 at in interval of every 2000 kms

    1. Loss of Mid Range and Top range Power.
(None of the mechanics knows proper re-jetting over here, I found 135LS carb main jet is 107.5)----- pls tell me which and what jets should i use to upjet?

    2. Sudden drop in Mileage.
(I am a city comutter. Earlier it used to give around 50kmpl, but since d last 10 days my mileage has dropped to a mere 36-38 kmpl)

and lastly, Im trying to perform(learn) wheelie, but my bike dosent seem to deliver that sudden pull no matter i am revving hard til 7k rpm.
no clutch settings seem to work for me.

    please help

      ??

mister, you have done all negative things to your machine, Installing k & n without upjetting is a strict no no and above that i suppose the FFE you installed in your BELOVED bike is just Dalda Dabba type, i dont think its calculated or design as per engine specs.

Regarding all things you have done al symptoms you are mentioning, clearly seems a case of busted piston rings aka loss of compression, Changing engine oil at this much interval doesnt matters. I f you really want it to be alive i again, i suggest you to remove poopy k & n and that FFE and go for piston change or probably a new kit !

      Rest is upto YOU !

K&N with FFE warrants upjetting...and you have not done it
GTX oil is meant for cars with friction modifiers, which will lead to clutch slip..
Change engine oil to Shell , Motul, Gulf, etc., with JASO MA2 spec meant for wet clutch..ie., engines that run with gear and clutch sharing same oil.
So up jet and change oil to JASO MA2 spec one ASAP.
K&N is not a good filter, your engine will wear out faster.

I feel pity for us. half knowledge is worse than no knowledge. you got a K&N thinking that A branded product will do wonders to your bike but it is not so... brand is no guarantee for performance enhancement. you need a lot more than a free flow filer, up jet.

I had installed the K&N for similar reasons you had... but i learnt my lesson pretty quick and now almost every part of the engine is under the scapel for mods... and let me tell you, i always have kept the option of reverting back.. the engine is a very complicated assembly where every part is perfect for its mating parts so if you change one of them, you need to change all (atleast theoretically)....

just for a bit of insight, if you need to increase the intake capacity, the filter needs to be changed, intakes need to be tuned for optimal flow, carb needs to be ported (depending on state of tune) intake tracts need to be mdified, valves may need enlargement... and the list goes on till the point you go bankrupt...

remember, cheap and fast is not relieable
fast and and reliable is not cheap
reliable and cheap is not fast

K&N is not a bad product but it requires a lot of brains and engineering to put it to good use and when you do have that, you will realise K&N is not the only option...

consult Joel if you really need a good set of mods... better stilll, sell off the bike and get a bike that was made to be fast....

remember the engineers at BAL are not fools to not use the K&N

Get your bike back to stock, and dump that K&N in the dustbin.
If you want a powerful bike, save up some money and buy a new one, that is what i'm doing, that is what i would recommend to anyone.

              ^^+100 % agreed

Go back to stock setting and replace any damaged piston rings, intake valve and you might have to check for any other damage to transmission or cluch plate due to non compatible engine oil, which means you might need to open up the engine too for safer bet.
Once you are back to stock setup, get the carb tuned for maximum performance. That should give you 50+ mileage and performance actually better than what you think you are getting now. (Its all your imagination that if you have K&N your bike will sky rocket!, it wont! Your bike with proper tuning can actually do better than that!)
Or you can sell the bike and buy an RTR180

As all are sayin dump that K&N in the dustbin. It will do no good unless you do loads of corresponding mods.Secondly Castrol GTX is a four wheeler oil and is too thick to run in engine.Go for Gulf,Motul,Elf 20w40 grade.

I know one of my friend who owned a Avenger 200dtsi with K&N got a busted engine.Hardly there was oil left in the crankcase.Piston was broken to pieces.Crankcase was bent and what not(as told to me by his mech)!! All this was for that crap K&N!! You mite already need a half engine replacement.Am i right guys??

Please stop scaring the poor guy. He might just have busted his spark plug.Lets hope that his engine is still intact.

yup... he must have mounted the K&N directly on carb... most pulsers respond to a short intake...

he seems to be suffering from "needle bounce"... upjet may not be the solution of this problem....

its best for him to revert back to stock if he does not want headaches...

if he still wants to MODIFY, He will need a long intake and upjet as a quick fix to this problem.. but remember he wont gain more than half a bhp... you need a big engine to gain visible gain..

best is get a P220 or a cbr250 or if he has lots of greens, ninja250

Castrol Gtx thats for cars not for bikes.
Since you are running on gtx your clutch plates might have gone bad
It might have done much harm than good.
Dump that Gtx oil and switch to the recommended oil.

As you have switched to K&n you are running to lean, install the original air filter.

Thanks for all your valuable advices. I really got a lot of info from that.

I guess k&n is the problem.

ok..firstly the FFE is not the local dabba ones available. It was made by "Revverz"...
I asked them for a FFE for my 135 as i love its sound. They took about 2 weeks and built is for me. They make FFEs by order. Its the only proper modification shop in our city. Still, i will change back to stock and lets see what happens.

Now GTX 20w50 isnt for cars. Get it verified whoever is commenting. I double checked with the castrol dealer and it is only 20w50 grade bike oil by CASTROL.
its mentioned to use only 20w50 oil.

tonight i did a 119kmph by tweeking my clutch settings for a long time..

                        now my question is:
SHould i go for an upjet or just revert back to my stock filter? need your views

The castrol dealer once suggested a 20w40 grading Tractor oil for Pulsar(in Coimbatore). SO you mean to say that i can use it on ???? GTX series is for cars.Kindly recheck Castrol India - Motorcycles

If you want more power...remember " No Replacement for Displacement "..nothing can give better power than a higher CC engine.
GTX is an oil meant for OLD car ENGINE containing high level of Zinc, phosphor, and other friction modifiers.
