Yes, I went to the nearby RTO, but I couldn't gather enough info as the officer in charge was on leave. Plus, due to the "Thane" cyclone story, the RTO shall remain closed till new year.

Hence seeking help here.

As far as I know only Anna Nagar RTO (TN-02) issue smart card with embedded chip and that only instead of RC Book and have heard nothing about DL. Well, I can find out on Smart card for DL and update you.

What's so special with Smart Card DL? 99% it should not make much difference when you ride or flash it to cops. Not able to guess what that 1% will make you do?

I just want it for peace of mind. My RC book is smart card type, but the ID type DL needs to be laminated very now and then.
I need to get xerox copies of the original and get them laminated every 4-5 months because the lamination peels off easily.

Hence, its just for the sake of comfort. Any help will be deeply appreciated.

If your RTO is not issuing SMART card type DL. Don't bother to pursue further, it is waste of time. Atleast, they will not make one SMART card for you.

+1 & you'll only loose your peace of mind trying to explain to cops how you got a smart card when your RTO doesn't issue them. Better stick to law than fancying.
