Welcome to xBhp Forums v2020

  • Engine Rebuild - Lack of Pick up and Compression

    I can feel a lack of pickup and also the pulling capacity of bike has come down. (DTSI-Alloy)When I kick start my bike, I cannot feel any compression in the Engine at all. Throughout the Kick, I don’t feel any big resistance which we feel when we kick the bike.

    I took it to a Mech shop who is very familiar in rebuilding the engine of Yamahas and other two strokes. The next best thing which comes in his work line up is pulsars..

    I personally felt that this could be mainly due to the Exhaust valves (That’s because I was using a Free flow Exhaust for more than 33,000 Km and rev her really hard, since it is very easy and full fun to ride. Now my bike is with stock exhaust and with 35 K on ODO)

    The Mech too agreed for changing the valves, but should the engine be opened for that ? Also how to decarbonize the Engine ? Are there any important points to take care of when the valves are being changed ?

    Me friends are against opening the Engine cos there is no smoke from the exhaust and also she is returning 40 as average.

    Am just confused. Some one throw some light on this topic. Before the server crash, there was one topic from Chennai related to Removal of the Engine head for pulsar and for shaving the head and cleaning… is that thread still available ??

      jus remove the head and give a new set of valves and oil seals to any lathe shop who are good in doing this...they wil do the decarbonizing part for you...
      for checking jus pour some petrol in the inlet and outlet and see if there is any leaks around the valve seat...

      there is not much risk in removing the engine so dont worry get it done..

        Ok before u do anything on the engine u shud do a compression test on the engine.....remove the spark plug...put the compression gauge into the hole and keep kicking as long as the needle rises...after a while it will stop...that is the maximum compression....i am guessing a dtsi engine runs at around 150 to 160 psi iirc... now if urs is way below this then i am guessing all the ripping has taken a toll on the piston rings...u dont have to shave off pistons or wutever....thats only to make the piston lighter and stuff and can affect piston life.... all u need to do is change the piston rings.... this should bring ur bike back to stock compression. unless u are ready to sacrifice engine life for performance do not touch the piston or the cylinder for that matter....u might have to machine the cylinder slightly(we are talking 0.3 to 0.5mm) if at all there has been any scoring after so much of ripping...otherwise just change the piston rings and u shud get the old feel back....

            I am sure most service centers in chennai should have one... else u can go to CBX racing on peters road royapettah( take left from woodlands theatre). Mr. Aweas has one....but u can also check at castrol bike zone or with probiking bajaj....

              how much would the job's mentioned cost?
