  • Windtone for Honda Activa.

    Hi guys,

I have a Honda Activa DLX, bought it less than a year ago, and now I wanna install a better horn than the stock ones coz people just don't pay attention to it anymore :P

Anyways, I did some research here and some people recommended Roots Windtone, a relay, and 2.5-mm thick wires. Now, I went to one of the popular scooter garages in my city, and got a little confused.

We are talking about Roots Windtone, but which model should I get fitted ? The scooter guy had Roots Windtone 75 and Windtone Super both available for Rs. 560 each. He had Bosch relay for Rs. 90 and another "chalu local" relay for Rs. 50. Is Bosch relay good ?

Also, I went to a car garage/shop, and he had Roots Windtone 90 for Rs. 550, but when I told him whether he'll install it in my Activa and whether he had a relay, he denied that and told me to take my Activa to a "scooter shop".

So, what do you guys suggest ? Windtone 75, Super, or 90 ? and how is Bosch Relay for Rs. 90 ? or should I insist on Roots relay ? Also, the scooter guy said you'll need 3 meters of wire. Is that okay ?

Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated. Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply

Why do you want to install a louder horn?

    1. Is your stock horn not audible enough?

    2. You want more "attention" on the road?

    3. Do you think making more noise on the road will make you safer on the road? If that is true, we wouldn't be having so many people dying on the railway tracks.

Hope you have some practical and logical reasons behind opting for a louder horn and that you don't end up becoming a nuisance on the road because barring a few exceptions, the stock horns are good enough.

Agree to sunilg , Stock horns are good , even with louder horn you get fined by police . And it's irratating to others but depends on how you use them . Even sometime other people got shocked by unexcepted noise & situation of accident happens . But those horns come handy while dealing with trucks or loud sounding vehicles .

If you want to install windtone then get any of it . To install them in activa you need to remove the front fiber , more work than just opening the bonet so might be due to it the mechanic has suggested to get them fitted by 2 wheeler mechanic . Can't say about bosch relay as i haven't used it yet but using delhi made relay for more than 6 years & they are fine . So choice is your for the relay .

Best way is to add another same horn with the stock one , in this way the sound they produce would be good & nice to hear . ( Just like dual horns in pulsar , ZMR )

IMHO,I don't recommend using wind tones in two Wheelers.
It gives a false impression of you to the driver in front of you and may mistake you as a car.
Every type of vehicle has a characteristic horn sound which helps us to distinguish and get an idea of the vehicle in our blind-spots etc.
For eg:-Buses,trucks,cars,rickshaws,scooters,bikes all of them have different horn sounds which help to identify them .

If you want louder horn GO for Dual horn setup using a relay.

Before doing any horn mod i suggest you get it tuned for max sound or say, noise.
Btw, honda oem horns are 105dB rated.

            Hi guys,

I used to own quite a lot of bikes, but in my current situation, I can only afford one vehicle and had to go for an Activa coz my wife will be using it in the near future once she's learned how to.

Now, being born and brought up with bikes, I have the tendency to go very fast, and I can't help it. I just can't go slow when the whole road is empty, and I can really speed it up, but the problem arises when I have to slow down or brake really fast. The horn can be sometimes more than enough, but in traffic, people don't even pay any attention to my horn and don't get aside, hence I have to slow way down to prevent crashing into them and brake hard again. In my city, people have developed an innate ability to not pay any attention to sounds like - PEEP PEEP . Believe it or not, sometimes am standing RIGHT AT THEIR BACK and have to YELL - "Hey...get out of the way" and they'll pay attention and get out of the way. It's unbelievable. You gotta see it to believe it.

Sometimes, some of the people just don't pay attention when they are cutting into a wider road. They don't see which vehicles are coming in fast. They just jump in the middle expecting the other guys to brake up. Hence, if I have a louder horn, they'll hear me coming and at least pay attention while cutting in the wider road. This happens especially early morning and late late evening when the roads are almost empty.

@Above_All - Will I really get fined by the traffic hawaldar for Windtone in Activa ? I really don't want that

And "GO for Dual horn setup using a relay", so I just get another OEM Activa horn from the nearby Honda dealership and get a relay and get the mechanic to install it ? Do you guys think that'll make a difference ?

Thank you so much for all the tips and info. Really appreciate the effort guys

PS: Trust me guys, even if I go for the Windtones, I'll use them responsibly. I know the ethics of proper driving

You are not alone , here are also some peoples walk on road like they are walking in garden . & Some drives as the road is of their own property .

Louder , fancy horns are cop magnet & illegal , they can fine for it .

Yes by dual horn i means oem horn by honda exact similar with the one already in activa . Can't say whether others give attention to you or not . But just imagine double sound to what you have now .

If you are going for windtones then try to put a toggle switch , so as to use normal horn mostly & if situation demands then switch to windtones .

              Ride safe & responsibly

I quite agree with Sunilg; I ride an Activa since 2004 & IMHO, it has better horns than most of the rides; if people aren't paying attention to your vehicle, then, learn how to use horns effectively & ride efficiently without using horns. Stay away from electrical mods unless you're doing it all by yourself.

Okay, this just popped in my head, random idea. How about a Pulsar (UG4) horn ? They are pretty good. A friend of mine has a UG4, and his horn is stock and very good and loud for a 2-wheeler. Can I get that installed and hopefully it won't be a cop magnet ?

                  Just a thought

Yeah pulsar horns can do well too. Btw, is your horn inside the front cover? (which holds battery, fuse etc) if yes then try to get your horn out of that & place it on somewhere else outside..
(but keep it outta water sprays).
This idea helped my kinetic scream louder!!

had a similar situation in my bro's aviator.
if you just need more sound just tune( turning screw behind horn) for louder decibels.

and if thats not good enough just get a dual horn of similar brand.
Our bikes can go from 0 - Stupid in less than "I wonder if this will be a good idea"

I was in the same dilemma about two years ago. Then dad decided to sell off our
car which was a swift. It came with Two horns which worked simultaneously when the button was pressed. Before selling it, plonked one and put it on my activa.
Beleive me, people do give way now
But gotta tell you, Use only when needed, it can be addictive!!
